I think I want to be a journalist "when I grow up", and I'm between Santa Clara and Irvine. Anyone know anything?

Oh, and also class size -is there a good place to find those numbers? I didn't see it on the website, but I'll look again

literary journalism is a major only available at UCI. No other UC campus has a journalism major. so keep that in mind =)

irvine is known for their english department, especially comparative literature (one of the most respected schools in the nation for it). they have a very well-rounded english program in my opinion, they offer a ton of interesting classes. i know a lot of english majors here, so that either says something about the program or the kind of people i'm friends with =)

I guess my major fear is that it's a new major so it isn't as well established. Would it be better to take the general Englsih major and take journalism classes?

that would seem like a good way to go, so at least you get a taste of what journalism is like, and not have to go through many hoops if you decide you don't like it anymore. it works out if you're definitely considering English, but you just don't know what type you like just yet.

don't worry, that's what the first year is for. testing out the waters.

Irvine is renowned for its English departments, so you should look here.
