How's the life of a Music Major?

You could be right about the elite being the only ones who would dare apply to Julliard, of course, but what I meant by low key wasn’t necessarily that they’re not as serious…they’re actually a lot more passionate about their music than a lot of other students. The low key part shows up in other classes and in their habits to whip out the guitars in the hallway and just start playing haha. I only know a couple of the guitar students well enough to call them friends, but from what I see they’re all really friendly. They mostly hang out with each other, but that’s what always happens when you’re in a small studio that, like you said, isn’t really a part of any performing ensembles.
Anyway, you seem like you obviously are pretty serious about your guitar playing, and since you know about classical guitar already (which a lot of majors don’t when they come in), you should be fine. To tell the truth, you’re bound to get a couple snobs in every instrument, but I’m sure there will be at least a few in your studio who aren’t like that. If you’re still worried, you could always arrange a visit in the fall to check out the students and see if you’ll be comfortable there. Visiting always makes you more likely to be accepted too, so that’s a plus. :)

Well, yeah my fear is that only the “elite” (the elite are just the really good, not snobby) apply to Juilliard haha. Yeah but the ones that are passionate and just whip their guitars out love their instrument but just don’t want to make a living out of it as they have something else in mind.

But I’d hate to be stuck with only a few people, I’m too outgoing and I hate staying in one place or with one group of people for too long haha. But I hope they don’t know anything when they come in, but if they don’t know anything how are they supposed to audition, wouldn’t they just automatically fail haha.

Luckily I live in NYC so visiting Juilliard and Manhattan School of music is no problem.
But I’ve made an appointment, the problem is it’s on the 20th of July haha, which is a far ways from now, and I’m just hoping I won’t forget because I booked it a month or so in advance, haha.

Thanks! I hope there’s more info you got.
