How's the police presence these days?

I was just curious to hear from some people who are currently living on or near the campus what they thought of the security these days, what with the recent spike in attacks against women. Have you been seeing a greater police presence since these attacks occurred? Does it appear that they're doing anything different? I trust that the police are working tirelessly to catch this guy (guys?), but I was just curious how it's looking down there right now. I'd like to come back for a visit and have been holding back until I feel a little safer being there by myself in the evening.

When I lived on campus I always hated how few of those blue light phones we have, when I arrived to study at umich I was accustomed to visiting students at EMU, where they have those blue light phones in view no matter where you are on campus-- EMU desperately needs that many and on a normal day umich probably doesn't, but that always bothered me and now that things /aren't/ normal I am anxious to see what the city is doing to protect people. I hope everyone is staying safe.

Just got back from a night out on the town and yes, there are lots of police patrolling the downtown area now.

Squad cars just circle central campus. It’s kind of obnoxious, but I’m glad they’re taking this seriously.

That’s good to hear. I expected to see more police presence after those bank robberies last summer/early fall and didn’t really notice anything different. It seems things have quieted down, I hope they catch the guy soon-- I don’t think I’ll truly feel like I can breathe again until they do. :(

Yes, it’s definitely reassuring to see the police doing something to find these guys. And yes I agree with your opinion on last year’s bank robberies. I mean, parts of umich were on lockdown and I felt like the police didn’t do anything. I’m sure they were busy, but I really couldn’t see it/feel it.
