How's this course schedule?

Hey, I just wanted to get some advice about the courses I plan to take. How do these classes sound?

MAT 101 (if I decide not to accept AP credit, MAT 104 if i will)
CHM 201
SPA 108
Writing Seminar
Possibly a freshman seminar

Will this be ok for the fall semester? Also, do a lot of people use advanced standing from APs?

I've heard a lot of people don't use their year of Advanced Standing because really, who wants to leave Princeton early? And if you're on finaid you're totally covered, and if not, well, then you can afford to stay another year!

Weasel will know more about the specific courses.

You don't actually leave princeton early if you use advanced standing- you just take a semester off (usually during sophomore year) and it's true, nobody really wants to do that. There are always other courses you can take for fun, and college will pass by very quickly, so you want to make the most of it.

You can get a whole year of it and graduate early too, actually, it's just more rare.

From the website:
1. Eligibility to graduate in three years. In addition to presenting the appropriate number of advanced placement units in the required subject areas, you are required to:

a. have fulfilled all prerequisites for a major;

b. propose a plan of study in a major, approved by the appropriate departmental representative;

c. indicate how you will fulfill all remaining University requirements; and

d. have earned a B average (with no grade lower than a C) prior to the start of junior year.

Take the AP credit for MAT 104....don't do MAT 101! Do yourself a huge favor. Also, switch out CHM 201 for CHM 207 if you want to have more fun in chemistry. 207 is a little harder but much better taught, so it's not clear that the workload is any worse since what you do is interesting as opposed to tedious.

I actually might be taking orgo as a freshman, but I'm not sure if that's such a good idea. If anything, I might just drop down to a lower level course (207 or 215) if orgo turns out too difficult right now, then I'll take it next year. Also, is MAT 101 really that bad? Maybe I'll just take 103, because I need 2 math courses to fulfill my premed requirements.

Well, it's really easy, and you won't learn a lot from it, especially if you already have AP credit for math. But the problem sets will still take time, and you might still have to memorize formulas, so you'll still have to do work; you'll just get no return from it.

Taking MAT 103 is a much better option. I'd still go for 104 if you can, because 103 is not really a prereq for 104 - so long as you can do the first to third derivatives of x^2 with respect to x, you're pretty much set. That's about how complicated differential calculus you'll need.
