Anyone with experience? I am debating whether to apply or not.
I was accepted but did not attend. My advice is to apply. There’s really no harm in applying even if you don’t get in. Nothing to lose everything to gain.
I agree with gdlt234. If you are qualified, definitely apply.
I’m a rising cse senior in the honors program, and I recommend you to give it a second thought if you are planning into going into a major in science or engineering. The curriculum is almost entirely liberal arts classes, which can be annoying if you’re not interested in them, and don’t want to take the honors science/math courses which can get extremely difficult (the AP credits don’t transfer either). Being in the honors program hasn’t benefitted me and was really just a setback. I am finishing the program only because I had racked up 30 out of the 40 credits by the end of my sophomore year.
Keep in mind others may have different a different experience and the fact that there is no harm in applying.
I can not speak from personal experience as I am not part of the honors program, but what I hear from the girlfriend is that the liberal arts classes, mentioned by @propro can get quite annoying. There is also a binder/portfolio that honor students are required to create/submit, which can become more of a hassle if you aren’t very artistic or interested in things like that.
If I had known more about the program I definitely would have given it a shot!
NO HARM IN TRYING!
@propro @UWchancemeh Yes I am going for a science-related major, possibly in the bio field. Hmm, listening to both of you, I really don’t like the sound of it. I was interested because of the study abroad programs and class priority. Also, I need a high GPA for med school…
Thank you for the input. I’ll look more into it.
