HPV(Genital Warts) Vaccine Approved. Protect yourself before you go to college.

A practical vaccine, unlike that meningitis crap that I didn't get. (3rd year, STILL NO MENINGITIS! Funny how that works.

I hope you are kidding, neverborn, meningitis is pretty nasty...

solo sex, done in the traditional manner, is completely devoid of any risk of STD transmittal. making it, relevant to this topic of STD infection, a truly safe form of sex. having said that, whatever someone needs to do to themselves to get the job done is their business, not mine, hospital stay or not. (...as long as they're insured)

at least we agree that a vaccine is a good thing. :)

I just wrote a paper on this a few weeks ago for my summer bio course. The vaccine is real (my mom is a nurse and they are going to give it to adolescent girls). If I were you I'd call your doctor and see if they know anything about the vaccine--a representative for the company who made it came into the doctor's office where my mom works.

If you can't get it now, see if it will be available from your doctor over your Christmas break.

Of course, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Don't do it until marriage! But even when you get married you never know what your partner is carrying.

Vaccines suck, I have none and Im fine.

Agree, Vinny. The change of meningitis infection are STILL statistically irrelevant to me.

alot of college campuses dont offer the vaccine yet, and it is quite expensive

Sorry for a weird post, but I must say this...after reading this topic late last night, I had a dream that I had genital warts...it was weird. It was "spreading to my hands"...ugh.

But yeah, my 2 cents, definitely stay healthy and do everythign in your power to not catch anything bad. Get tested for stuff regularly if you're active. I'm sure you all knew that, though.

I would definitely like to get this vaccine because condoms don't protect against HPV, but I don't have $360 to spend right now, and my mom is completely disapproving of any sexual activity on my part so she would never pay for it. Does insurance cover the vaccine at all? Would my parents know if I got it through their insurance?

Some people have mentioned "knowing who you are having sex with". That doesn't make a difference. They don't have to be a slut to have HPV - all it takes is one time with someone else, who had one time with someone else, who had one time with someone who had HPV. Unless you are both complete virgins, there is always some risk.

Which is why its important to go for your annual exam, and to be honest with your doctor.

This will depend entirely on who your insurance provider is.

I know that most major insurance providers do: Wellpoint, Aetna, and Kaiser Permanente all do.

I would recommend asking your insurance provider if they cover Gardasil and about the confidentiality issue you mentioned. It might even be on their website.

Gardasil now available in Alaska:

Well, if the person you love isn't a hooker (referring to people who get around) then STD's shouldn't be a problem. Relatively few people contract STD's at birth, so if you stick to one person and that person sticks to one person then you ARE safe.

So someone who has had sex with two people is a hooker?

You are painfully naive.

Morningtheft, I agree. Most people do not have just one serious relationship in their lifetimes, and so they should not expect that from their partner. Even if you aren't the type to have casual sex (which doesn't make you a hooker), there is a risk of contracting HPV if you have sex with ONE person that has had sex with at least ONE other person besides you. That other person may have only had sex with a couple people, but one of those couple people could have had sex with someone who had sex with someone who had HPV.

Its not at all about your sexual promiscuity. STDs that cannot be prevented with condoms can spread very easily, as I just demonstrated, which is why this vaccine is good for anyone who is sexually active. Don't think that just because you are aren't a slut, you aren't at risk. That misconception is what makes people behave carelessly.

The only way you are totally safe from STDs is if both you and your partner have NEVER been sexually active.

is it like injected near the cervix?

[/quote]

Nope, arm. Just like other vaccines.

I haven't seen anything about this vaccine being available to men, only women, and it looks like they're aiming for something like the 9-30 crowd (I don't remember the exact age range).

Gardasil now approved for use on males age 9-26.

Someone sticky this.

just wrap it. don’t be stupid

hmm I should probably get this

looks at sex life

eh.

“just wrap it. don’t be stupid”

Condoms are somewhat effective against HPV, but not totally.

Just get vaccinated. Don’t be stupid.

You can also get HPV outside of sexual contact.
