@Jenneraytion I can see why your parents want you to reconsider. It is very very hard to make a living in anthropology and I heard that straight from my anthropology teacher. I took intro to anthropology, intro to archaeology and intro to sociology at cc and we went on various archaeology digs as part of our research projects. Before doing this I thought it was going to be sooo much fun, but I hated it. Being outside in the hot sun, digging in the ground, which is strenuous work. We were out there from 8am-5pm with an hour break for lunch. We rarely found anything and thats how it mostly is. But, they say that finding nothing can be just as informative as finding something. I still found it very tiring work and not that rewarding for the amount of effort you put in. However, you may be different. Im assuming you have taken intro to anthropology?

Yea I took intro to cultural anthro at my local cc and I’m not gonna lie it was pretty boring. I’ve just always wanted to be a forensic anthropologist. I may switch to a pharmacy major but Idk yet

I agree! It was extremely boring. Nothing like we see on Bones. haha. Now if it were like that in real life then I would definitely do it!

If you guys have any questions I entered summer b a year ago and went through the HS/AA orientation.

It’s super boring, time could not go any slower. Orientation for HS/AA is like worst of both worlds. My favorite part was on day 2 when the director/professor of etymology gave all of us a 20 minute speech about how we all need to get off our high horse of earning an AA in HS and come to grips on reality that we are just as fresh as any other 1st year. He will try to scare the **** out of you. I hope you guys go through it like I did haha!

In hindsight I agree with him that we shouldn’t resort to bragging about it whenever in conversation it comes up (except when it’s family, they love that stuff). I usually credit myself with making the great choice and sticking to that goal of finishing the degree but it wasn’t that difficult; that’s where the modesty comes in.

Your first semester here will be great, especially if it’s summer b that’s a cakewalk but I hate to say it but the semesters after that are not full of the same energy. My preconceptions of UF before I came here were that I thought it was a Public Ivy League school. It’s really just a decent state-flagship school and many of the courses will feel like they are taught by the same community college professors the only difference is, instead of having 80% of your class sound like dumbf#$ks when they speak, here it’s is more like 50/50.

also the girls here are probably hotter and much harder to get

***your mileage will vary. the CC i went was in a county which is known for being ignant but I think a lot of you can relate

Thanks for the warning Orange!Blue!

I’ve had a friends go through it and they told me not to get an ego about it…

Are you on FacebooK?

wowow… interesting post. ^^^

yeah theres quite a few attractive girls there and even though everyone hates that they’re going through orientation theres definitely a palpable excitement. Everyone is nice and you’re usually interacting with everybody a lot during the 2nd half of the 1st day and a little bit of the 2nd day.

Personally, I had the most fun just forming a quick group of friends and then ditching some of the gayer parts of the evening such as the “dance” the preview staff will throw for you. I think they called it “club broward” when I did it. Everyone is sober, its dark, they play music and everyone dances in the basement of Broward Hall and I think it’s mandatory.

After all this nonsense ^^^ you go up to your rooms to sleep. I brought my laptop which has a lot of movies and we had a lot of people over in my room watching a couple movies. Some girls eventually sneaked over to the guys side to hang out and I heard a few hooking up stories the next day. That being said this is the time I remember as being the best part of the entire experience. Otherwise it’s complete hell and time goes by ever so slowly. I kind of miss how simple everything was though back then. Create your own memorable experiences at your own risk!

Don’t get in major trouble and don’t be stupid. One kid got arrested during preview.

Arrested? Haha… How’d he manage to do that?

A little weed smoking in the middle of night on campus which I have no idea how he pulled off. Campus is huge and there are little forests everywhere
