HS CLASS of 2012: 'decision changing' Essays. Is there such a thing?

As we're all awaiting decisions from some of the best schools in the country, it's hard not to wonder if our applications were just enough to get that acceptance. My curiosity struck recently, as I have recently read my personal statement for the first time in awhile. And I have to be honest here, It struck a major cord with me. The essay was my voice, my words, my story; I realized that this was the only part in my app that I really had 100% control over. So I ask you, fellow cc addicts, is the personal statement a component of the app that can change a maybe to yes?

PM me, and I'll send my essay--your opinion would be appreciated!

In case you guys were wondering, here are some of the top schools I've yet to hear from:
Northwestern
Fordham
Harvard
Cornell
UCLA
NYU

I think so. I’ve heard many stories about applicants lacking in other areas but writing incredible essays. Or borderline applicants getting in because of an outstanding essay.

My letter of admission listed the aspects of my app they liked and mentioned my essay specifically as one.

Only if you have the stats.

Of course. But you must have the stats. Even an excellent essay can’t salvage mediocre SAT scores or grades (for that school).
