I'm applying for a job. My first actually. So I applied couple of months ago, and I never got calls back. Maybe because my resume was kind of...blase. So I volunteered to give it more fluff. Can you please go over it? It's one page, and my first job, so I don't have much experience.

Criticism will be gladly accepted. Just email me if you want to read it. Thank youuuuuuuuuuuuu so much!!!!!!!!

Did you send in a cover letter? Did you call them repeatedly even when they didn’t call you back? From what I hear you’re supposed to do that because sometimes they get hundreds of resumes and if you’re not persistent they won’t pay attention to you.

Or you could just apply to a small, obscure company like I did. If no one knows about the company you won’t have much competition.

I agree that you should use a different template. Try avoiding those flowery cursive-ish fonts.

They just look… uh … tacky?

Try keeping some of the words consistent with each other
For “Selected skills and abilities”
you write “able to …”
and then, the next bullet point says “ability to” … why not also start with “able to” ?

Do you have other additional things you can put on your resume? Awards? Other extra-curriculars that are relevant to the job you’re applying for? For example, when I was applying for a job at an art gallery, it helped that I was in a high-level art class and that I was an illustrator for my school paper.

You state on your resume that one objective is to use your “educational background” … do you plan to show them a transcript or something?

[ul][]Please dispose the fancy font ASAP.
[]Speaking of font. . .type the entire resume under one font.

[li]Template of the resume looks too unprofessional. Try other templates; Google image search “resume templates” for some inspiration.
[/li]

[li]“Able to maintain an organized and clean environment”? “Ability to work in diverse teams and communicate well with others”? Very generic “special skills”, yes. How about you subtly connect those special skills to your stints at the hospital and the library?
[/li]

[li]Any awards from high school? List them!! [/li][/ul]

yes, I got rid of the font, and template. Now that you mention it, it is kind if boring. you see? …i just needed feedback.

oh and btw, I am a staff member at my school newspaper, where should I put that?
The experience section…or the skill/activities? or should I just leave that out?
thnks guys, you guys are awesome.

Okay, so I finished reading this article three seconds ago, and am I being too paranoid about the “get rid of the objective” line? Should I just take it off as suggested by the article? Or is the articles aimed towards job-less graduates (no offense) ugh. >_<

It’s a great start, but I don’t know if its just my computer, but your text seems too large too me. It looks like you are trying to take up space. I would make it 12pt. Also, I would highlight your language ability somehow, it is a great asset. I would also, without a doubt, list your newspaper experience, it shows that you can write. I would also outline a more specific objective that directly relates to the position that you are applying to. If you would like to see my resume, it has gotten me numerous internships/volunteer positions/ect, PM me!
