Hi everyone. My high school is ranked top 50 in the country. I know that a lot of the local colleges know that but would other colleges (West Coast and New england) colleges know about the rank of my HS and consider it?

thanks.

Colleges in other parts of the country than your live will certainly know your HS if it is in the top 50 (or even ranked lower), particularly the more selective colleges.

Well, I guess they will consider it somehow. But I doubt if your personal ability will be overlooked for the sake of your high school’s rank. Check with the colleges you are applying to.

Being ranked 20th in a class of 400 for example, or top 5%, at a highly competitive school such as yours will make you more competitive than someone who has a better rank or decile at a much less competitive school. There are obviously other factors such as gender, hooks, intended major, essays, recs, etc., that are all part of the equation.
