HS Senior in need of advice

Hi,

I'm looking to major in Mechanical Engineering and enter in the automotive industry afterwards, and I was seeking some advice about colleges. I recently began compiling a list of colleges I'd like to apply to and for my Early Decision college, I'm a bit stuck between choosing Northwestern University of Carnegie Mellon University. I was hoping some of you would be able to give me some input on those two universities for majoring in Mechanical Engineering as well as the atmosphere.

Thank you,
Donald

My MechE friends at CMU enjoyed their classes and none of them had any problems finding jobs during/after college. A few of my friends in Materials Science even worked for Ford/GM for college jobs, so I'm sure MechEs could do the same.

You'll be fine at any school. Visit each one and decide which one feels right. In most professions, particularly engineering, you won't be limited by your school but more so by your ability to learn.

Mechanical engineers from CMU have to know the same things as mechanical engineers from "insert any school here".

Have you thought about U. Michigan?

Anyway both CMU an NU are wonderful schools and I'm sure you can get a job in any field with one of their degrees.

I don't know much about either school, but my 2 cents is that if you are not 100% positive you want to go to a school, then don't apply there ED. If there is ANY doubt in your mind or multiple choices that you like, it may be a better choice to apply regular decision and then choose the program you like the best after visiting and talking to more people.
