Hs Soph Help

Hey, my name is Eric. I'm new to this site, and felt like finding out where I stand. I'm only a sophomore, but I'm curious to know what colleges I may accept me. I realize it is hard to say, since I have yet to take the SATS, but any estimate will help. Oh, and this is the second time I am writing this. I wrote a whole thing out, and when I tried to submit it, it said I wasn't registered and I lost it all!

Freshman Year:
English, Wood Shop, Keyboarding, Earth/Space Science, Algebra II, World Cultures, Spanish II, and Gym/Driver Ed.
My GPA was 95.6, and for my major subjects, it came out to a 97 even. My rank was 14/approx 205.

Sophomore Year:
Gym/Health, Honors English, Biology, Gourmet Foods, US History I, Spanish III, Mysteries and Suspense (formerly Gothic Lit until the schoolboard decided they didn't like the name), and Geometry
GPA thus far is 97.8 ... I'll know where i stand in about a week when finals are through. I figure about a 97 even lol. Since we don't know our ranks, I'll say I'm about 7/205 this year.

Junior Year: (these are the classes I requested, but our "wonderful" guidance department doesn't always give you the classes you want)
Honors Enlgish, AP Biology, AP US History, Spanish IV, Chemistry, SAT Prep, Gym.

Senior Year: (guessing)
AP English, AP Calculus, Physics, Economics, Psychology, Finace, Gym...also i am gonna take a dual enrollment class at either PSU-WORTHINGTON, or The Univ of Scranton for college credit

I haven't done one steady service project, but I'd say I have around 30 hrs lol....I am planning on doing a 25 hour ACS project for relay for life in the summer, as well as a 25 hr eihter hospital, or nursing home project...any other suggestions...im trying to get 100 hrs by next year..oh and wrestling coaching for youth

Awards:
Distingished Honor Roll every quarter, Who' s Who Among Amercian High School Students, National Honor Roll, US Achievement Academy, Who' s Who Among Amercian High School Students Sports Edition, NHS AND MHS if they count, 2006 HOBY Ambassador (I had a great time there last week, and I hear it looks awesome on resumes), 2006 First Annual Randy Kordish Memorial Award for wrestling, umm probably more, can't really think right now lol....I wrote a short story for the Mys and Sus class and my teacher was joking with me that i should get it published...Im seriously thinking about entering it in some contests and stuff

Well, like I said, I have yet to take the SATs. I have taken the PSATs, and got a 1530. I think my grade would have been higher if I had math (block schedules at our school). As an estimate, I'd say my score would be between 1550-1850. This summer I'm taking some classes, hopefully they pay off. Thinking about a career in possibly* Pharmacy. What kind of schools could I get into(e.g Pitt, OSU, PSU...Yale?) Thanks...and I'm anxious to see what you guys have to say!

1850 is too low for Yale, aim for 2200-2300. Ha, what am I saying, aim for 2400! :)

haha im kiddin about yale...what are some schools to seriously consider if i score in the 1550-1850 area

If you score in the upper end of that SAT range, and seeing you are in PA, you would have a real good chance at PSU-Main. If you are in the lower part of that range, you may want to consider Temple, or a PSU branch campus. PSU-Main may be tough to get into with a 1550. Although, your GPA looks real solid.

thanks a lot...i think ill be closer to the 1700-1850 range....how bout some out of state schools

Another school you may want to consider is Duquesne. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe they have a pretty good undergrad health program. This is a private school, however, and I don't know what you're financial situation is.

As far as out of state, Ohio State has similar average SAT scores and GPA to Penn State. However, I'm not sure if it is harder to get in out of state or not.

To get into Pitt, you're going to want those scores in the upper range again. If you can score in the 1800's, I believe you should have no problem getting into at least three out of the four (Duquesne, OSU, Pitt, PSU).

what other out of state schools...by the way name any that i could be accepted in, reguardless of my financial situation

The following schools are all out of state (except Juniata), are fine colleges, and all have Pre-Pharmacy majors. They are all pretty much within reach for you, assuming you get at least a high 1700, low 1800.

University of Delaware
Fordham University
American University (slight reach based on projected SATs)
Juniata College
Rochester Institute of Technology
SUNY-Albany
University of Cincinnati
University of Maryland-Baltimore County

hmm that means that i would have to find a graduate school to re-apply to in order to get my B.S. or Pharm.D ---correct?

From what I'm reading, you're going to need to complete at least two years of college and then apply to a four year Pharm.D. program. About 2/3 of colleges of pharmacies require you to take the Pharmacy College Admissions Test (PCAT).

Hope this helps. Good luck!!

hmm...what about schools like rutgers or even purdue...what kind of stats do they require...oh and where do u do most of your research for my answers lol, and is there anything i can do to make my resume more appealing?

You should be in pretty good shape for Rutgers and Purdue, assuming you get about an 1800.

Your resume seems really solid. Just keep the grades up, continue to do community service, and do well on the SATs. I really don't see a problem with you getting into all of the previously mentioned schools.

My two favorite sites for researching colleges are:

<a href="http://www.collegeboard.com%5B/url%5D">www.collegeboard.com</a>
<a href="http://www.princetonreview.com%5B/url%5D">www.princetonreview.com</a></p>

They are very popular and good sites for narrowing down your list of colleges.

Who's Who Among Amercian High School Students and The National Honor Roll are scams...

<a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=190899%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=190899</a>

ok well i didnt pay for them, nor did i have a question about them...if u want to give me advice on how to improve my chances of gettting into colleges and/or what schools to apply to, i would love for you to post...honestly though, i couldnt care if they are scams or not

I don't think you can get into Ivy Leagues... I think you should apply to somewhere like UMASS or UVM, they seem like a good fit for you

haha i wasn't planning on ivy leagues lol...is uvm vermont?

any other advice/schools/secrets?

Just a question- how can you play JV/Varsity Soccer and Baseball in the same year? This being sophomore year...

Have you checked out URI (University of Rhode Island)? They have a program where you're admitted to pharmacy school as a freshman. They give pretty good merit money as well (up to full tuition for six years). Cons are the isolation and huge drinking/ party school rep, but its a great ptrogram. Also, don't know if you would be interested in this part of country, but University of Montana has a pre-pharm program as well.

Just a question- how can you play JV/Varsity Soccer and Baseball in the same year? This being sophomore year...
With the soccer team I started on JV and was the second sub off the bench for Varsity. By the end of the year I was playing more varsity than JV. For baseball I played on JV all year since I was a sophomore. Once our season ended (about 3 weeks ago), I got called up to Varsity...hope that explains it lol....Do you think I should phrase it differently?

hmm...Montana...idk lol...I'll check out those schools though, like I mentioned earlier, any help is great.
