hss - classes for next year

has anyone registered for classes yet?

also, i’ve gotten an email about the english placement test, but nothing for math. am i supposed to get an email/letter about the math test also?

If you’re in blackboard, you should see any required placement tests for your school now or certainly by end of the month- since registration begins in July for each school.

You might ask one of the peer advisors in the FB groups about this…HSS might be a bit different than CIT, SCS and MCS (which is what I’m most familiar with)- students in these schools they have already been informed to take the test by the end of June and it’s on blackboard. HSS also I think (don’t quote me) has advisors do your scheduling based on a form you return, AP scores and math placement test results.

Don’t worry - HSS will send you everything you need-- make sure to check your CMU email daily at this time of year-- things start coming in…
If you don’t hear by June 15-- you can check in with HSS Advisor directly.

HSS is the only college that does not do your scheduling for you whatsoever. You will be asked to pick classes and they’ll give you a link where you can see all available sections and register for them. You won’t register until late summer-ish, and your counselor will let you know way in advance.

The good side? You get to take classes with upperclassmen/small, focused classes in your first semester of freshman year. Bad side? You often won’t be with many of your freshman peers, so it can be hard to network outside of your Interp/World History/C@CM/Seminar/Stat class. (Although every HSS kid has collective inside jokes about Gordon and Rouse, so that’s always a good point of conversation.)
