Hi. I've just found out that I cannot take AP Economics this years because of a scheduling conflict with jazz band. Thus, I need to find another AP social science course. Could anyone who has taken either AP US History or AP European History or both comment on the workload in terms of the amount of reading required for each. Also if anyone has taken both, which one was harder. I was looking forward to AP Econ because I saw it as an easier course with little reading required. I hear the Ap Us and Euro require tons of reading. more that AP Government which had tons. Any comments are appreciated. Thanks.

Hey, I'm pretty sure they both have a lot of work involved, but it depends on each school so I recommend that you talk to people in your school that have already taken it because different teachers have different teaching styles and different homework.

At my school though, AP Euro is a senior class while APUSH is for sophomores... AP Econ is usually a junior class and even though it wasn't as much bookwork as APUSH, I found it to be a lot more difficult.

But again, it depends on your school.

Take AP Euro. It's several hundred times more interesting. How much reading depends on the school. I had slightly less reading than for APUSH, but at my school AP Gov barely has any reading. And at my school APUSH is for sophs, AP Euro for juniors and ap gov for seniors.

I've taken Euro, and I'm going to take US this year. At my school (apparently this is unusual) AP European History is a sophomore class, and US is usually taken by juniors and seniors. We did a fair bit of reading, but like everyone is saying, it varies from school to school. I thought the amount of homework was really manageable...plus the class was really interesting, so it was worth it. I'd say go for the Euro, but you probably ought to talk to people from your school who've taken it first. Good luck!

For us, US History is freshman year, and a select few freshman take APUSH, while the majority of the class is filled with juniors and seniors who enjoy/are interested in US History, enough to fill an elective spot with an AP history. AP Euro is for seniors only, although this may be due to the legendary teacher (the only one to teach AP Euro at our school for 20+ years) and his college lecture style of teaching. I took APUSH freshman year and loved it, it was my favorite class ever. However, it's a heckuva lot of reading. But I hear that AP Euro is comparable, so I would go with whichever you're more interested in.
