Huge Dilemna - Please Help - Give me your opinions.

I got accepted to several UCs. I chose to go to UCI. I went to the orienation and I loved it; great people, campus, everything!

Here is the problem. My ultimate goal for years has been the infamous USC film school.

My plan was to go to UCI for the general education, then transfer to USC.

I looked at USC's transfer site, and they stated that only 10% of their transfer students came from CSU/UC schools, and 64% came from community colleges.

In your opinions; is it wise to drop UCI and pursue a community college, in order to have a great chance of getting into USC later?

My dilemna is that I feel like I wasted all that hard work in high school trying to get into good colleges; I feel, that by dropping UCI and going to a CC, I am going backwards. I feel like crap. So many people work hard in high school and CC to get into schools like UCI, now im decideing to go backwards..

But my ultimate goal has and always will be USC film. So I guess its a sacrafice I have to take.

Look at the acceptance rates for people coming from both sources. Is there less applicants coming from UC/CSU campuses because it is more difficult to transfer from them to USC, or simply because many less people are trying to get into USC from a UC/CSU campus than from a CC? Logic would dictate the latter.

USC's film school is probably the top school of its kind and it is very, very hard to get into. The chances of transferring in are small for anyone -- regardless of whether you come from a UC/CSU, a community college, or even a private college. I'm not saying that you can't do it, but you need to be realistic and understand that you may not get into the film school.

So you need an alternate plan, just in case. And certainly you will get a much better education at UCI than at a community college. So dropping out of UCI now for a community college just because of those particular transfer statistics (which as amciw pointed out may be more dependent on sheer numbers than anything else) seems very ill-advised.

I would recommend you continue at UCI.

Interesting.

I understand that USC's film school is very difficult to get into. I have been preparing a resume for myself for many years now. I have taken video production classes, film analysis, president of american student film society, won 6 awards for my short films, and even conducted an internship as a production assistant on a commericial. I am NOT one of those aspiring film students who lacks knowledge and a resume that has high hopes into getting into USC film. I have been working around film for several years now. Whether a huge background will help or not, I will definently contact USC and ask them about the transfer rates.

Thank you very much. Both of you

i dont have any advice, but good luck, i admire your passion!
