Huge mistake. I fell in love with Harvard. Chance me please.

Yeah, so I just came back from visiting Boston area colleges, and for some reason, I decided to visit Harvard. Not that there's anything wrong with that, I just didn't want to get excited over a school that is a reach for me. I honestly fell in love with the school, and did a complete 180 (I was dead set on Columbia before). Anyway, here are my stats.

Current junior
Asian (Indian) male from lower NY
Public high school, not super competitive except for the upper 15 students or so, but very, VERY diverse (less than 10% are white)(I love it =P )
Rank: 1 out of approx. 300 (my guidance counselor informed me that this will probably not change when the official ranks are given out next year)
GPA: ~105/100 W
100/100 UW
Financial Aid: Yes
Prospective Major: Biology or US History (Yes, I am all over the place...)

SAT: 2320 (800 M, 790 W, 730 CR)
PSAT: 225
Have not taken ACT yet
SAT IIs: 780 Biology E, 770 World History, will take Chem, US, and Math II in June
APs: Biology (5), World History (5), Environmental Science (self-study 5)
Currently taking:
AP Chemistry, AP US History, AP Statistics, AP English Language, AP Psychology (self-study), and AP Human Geography (self-study)
Scheduled APs for senior year: AP Macro, AP Micro, AP US Government, AP Calc BC, AP Physics B, AP Spanish (self-study because I cannot continue with AP Spanish V class, will not have room), AP English Literature

ECs: Model UN, Mock Trial (secretary), Science Olympiad (two time medalist), Science Research, Math League, Math Honor Society (president), Social Studies Honor Society, Foreign Language Honor Society, Science Honor Society, National Honor Society

Currently work ~4 hours a week at a Kumon learning center

Volunteer experience: Tutoring, local hospital (~100 hours)

Summer experiences:
Summer between 9th and 10th - 6 week "AP Academy" held at school prepping for AP classes in 10th grade
Summer between 10th and 11th - Mathematical Modeling Program (Mercy College)
Summer between 11th and 12th - not sure yet, might do a science program abroad in India and also counsel for a one-week sleepaway youth camp in Pennsylvania

Guarantee fantastic essay and letters of recommendation (One from GC, who i know really well, one from 10th and 12th grade english teacher, and one from 10th grade AP Bio teacher who I am currently helping to create an AP Environmental Science syllabus to make it a class next year (I self-studied it and got a 5 last year) and she also mentors me for Science Research, or maybe from 11th grade US History/12th grade US gov teacher if i decide to major in US History)

Please chance for Harvard, Columbia, SUNY Binghamton, Northeastern, Boston University (Acc. 7 Year Medical), UPenn, Princeton. Thanks!!

Honestly, I would say u have a shot :D

You have a big big shot at Northeastern. In fact, that may be a slight safety! I don’t know much about Boston U, nor do I know much about SUNY Binghamton. Columbia and UPenn, definitely a shot. Harvard may be a slight reach, but keep at it!

Thanks to both of you guys!!

I think my grades and scores are on point, but I just feel as if my ECs don’t really show a specific passion, probably because I have a passion for learning in general.

For jenni0z- Northeastern is more than a slight safety, as is SUNY. Presumably BU’s 7-year medical program will be looking mostly at academics and medicine-related EC’s, which you have. UPenn and Columbia I’d say are slight reaches, just because you’re right that no extracurriculars pop out. But your academics are staggering, so who knows? Harvard’s a reach. But falling in love with a dream school is a great thing. Good luck!

Wow. I am really impressed. Your grades are much better that the standard HYPS applicant (e.g. much better than me)
Harvard- 37%
Columbia- 50%
SUNY Binghamton- 100%, definite scholarship
Northeastern- 100%, definite scholarship
Boston University (Acc. 7 Year Medical)- 46%
UPenn- 46%
Princeton- 31% (I think that you probably won’t have the interest level of harvard for princeton, which would overall reduce your overall package’s impressiveness.

Thanks guys!!

Ivyleague2016, I’m curious as to how you came up with those specific numbers.

he pulled them out of his ass

I think you show a passion for science…but a passion for learning is probably also appreciated

Hey man, ur stats are great…and u show an immense passion for science. I wish u the best of luck at all those schools…Harvards a crapshot for everyone but ur looking pretty good.

You have a 100% UW average? You’ve never earned a grade below 100%?

Thanks for pointing that out raiderade, I’m not sure why I put that (must have been wishful thinking on my part). It’s more like 98/100 UW

Oh and my SAT score is now 2340 (800 M, 800 W, 740 CR). Just got my March scores today!
