Well I apparently didn't proofread my essays enough, probably because I did most of it on the 15th. I was doing my other apps and reading over my Stanford essays and I found a pretty big typo. Will this make or break my application?

What's the typo? Just curious. But NO....there is no way ONE typo can break your application. Unless, of course, you wrote ....and THAT is why I want to go to (college other than Stanford).

What was the typo? If it was like "and this is why I would be perfect at Harvard..." then that could potentially be an issue. One random typo in the essay won't hurt you. Do you really think they will read the application carefully enough to even notice? I doubt it. I bet they read the essays pretty quickly, and the human brain has a remarkable talent for making sense out of words with letters in the wrong places. What was the typo exactly?

Ok here's the typo:

Maybe a better management device must be created to minimize the effect of propellant sloshing in the tank *must be created.*

I don't know why I added another "must be created" at the end.

So I guess it's not that huge, but it noticeable and it still bothers me.

Yeah, I can see how its bothersome. But...it's obvious that it's a typo and not a grammar mistake, so I don't think it will have any impact either way.

Maybe they'll cut me some slack and think that I forgot to fix it in the short answer box ;)

They'll probably correct it and send it back to you with a grade.

haha knowing stanford they'll be like "dude, a typo! duuuude! =D"

seriously though, i don't see why it would make a difference.
