<p>I think all of the prompts ask essentially the same thing. You need to say: (1) something about you, in other words, what is your academic interest or career goals; and (2) something appealing about the focus of the School of Human Ecology that makes you want to go there.</p>
<p>but what approach should be taken...is the above prompt more of a "show your match to the college by explaining what you do that fits you with the college" or do they just wanna know what you value verbatim</p>
<p>I still believe they are asking for your view of how your interests and goals match what Human Ecology has to offer. In order to write this, you must articulate your academic interests/passions (and it helps to write, as you have done, specific activities that have been meaningful to you) and explain why the school of Human Ecology is the right place for you to achieve your goals. So they do want to know what have you identified about the School of Human Ecology's approach or mission that makes you want to go there. But you can also include things about Cornell in general such as availability of undergraduate research opportunities. </p>
<p>This is just my perspective of the supplemental essay question. If you interpret it a different way then definitely write it your way.</p>
<p>DJD, you might want to go through the course structure of the specific Human Ecology major you are applying to, and reflect an awareness of that major as you describe yourself. CHE wants to know you understand what you're signing up for, as the curriculum for each major is very specific and you are asked to declare the major as you apply. And of course, be yourself, because if you're disingenuous you might get yourself admitted for a stipulated curriculum that you don't want!</p>
