Hello! I'm a prospective student, looking to apply ED this fall. I'm thinking that I would want to major in philosophy, english, or something of the sort while in college and I was wondering how strong these departments are at Dartmouth. I realize that all departments at Dartmouth are going to be top-notch but compared to, say, some of the best liberal arts schools in the nation, how is Dartmouth in the humanities? If they are very good, I want to be able to list this as a reason Dartmouth and I would be compatible. Any other info about majors at Dartmouth, especially from personal experience, is greatly appreciated.

Dartmouth is universally strong, but for the humanities where small classes and intimate instruction are important Dartmouth excels. Also Dartmouth has so many special resources such as its own foreign study programs by MAJOR (example: philosophy in Edinburgh) which few schools have. Also there are lots of grants and opportunities to work with a professor 1-1 even before your thesis (“reading course”). Also Dartmouth professors just care, they invite you to dinner and always have an open door. Dartmouth feels intimate and the education is fantastic. Dartmouth is continually ranked #1 for undergraduate education and in my own my personal experience I thought it was just outstanding.
