Humanities at Wellesley

I've been looking into Wellesley and it seems like a great school. The only thing is, it seems more like a science/math based school than the other Seven Sisters and I'm looking to major in art history. Does anyone have any information about how good the art history dept at Wellesley is?

I think it's pretty good. I've never taken a class, being one of those math/science people. I know the intro classes are fairly popular. Wellesley students (all, not just the art ones) get free passes to the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, and there is an Art Museum, the Davis Museum. Unfortunately the Museum is closed this school year to fix problems with the roof and humidity.

I was under the impression that percentagewise, Wellesley had a lower concentration of science/math majors than the other women's colleges, in spite of having one of the most beautiful college science buildings I've seen. Has anyone seen actual data on this?

According to the 2006 Edition of US News, the top 5 most popular majors were Economics (13%), English (10%), International Relations (10%), Psychology (10%), and Political Science (9%), in that order. So those 5 majors alone account for a little over half of all students.

There seem to be quite a few science majors though... Biology and pre-med appear to be popular among the science crowd. I suggest going onto the website and finding the course catalog. You might get a better idea of what courses the school offers as far as Art History goes (and if they offer enough for you to build a major around it).

I'm looking into Wellesley too, except I'm going into science. I thought that it was more of an art school. Look at their course catalogue and you'll see how many art history classes they have versus how many chemistry or biology classes they have. I have a friend who just graduated from Wellesley and she said that it was an excellent school for both the sciences and the arts.
