do people in huntsman have a high level of command on their target lanugage and are there any students who applied with their mother language and got in?

and… huntsman math requiremen’ts pretty alright with 800 math2, calc 5… what else is needed?

How "proficient" does one have to be? Would a relatively low score on an SAT II language test hurt chances a lot? (ie, mid-high 700's on the Chinese)

i would assume that is fine. I think they just want people to low the language; theyre not going to punish you b/c your fluent. You just have to pass Penn's language test, which they send to you if you are kinda like a finalist.

I heard if you can get a 4 or 5 on the AP you would be fine.

i think that anything above a 700 on an sat ii language test is perfectly fine (they will send you their own test to see how TRULY proficient you are)....and anything above 720 or so on the sat ii math (and sat math too) should keep you competitive....it really isnt all about stats....

by the way, i applied with my mother language (russian), but i will most likely be switching into french or chinese

I didn't mean that the schools officially required any of the math tests. I was just wondering if proficiency in such tests would be okay if my school test grades aren't all As for math.

It's really relieving to hear dostoyevsky got in with your mother language. BUt for me, since I live and study in my country, it might be different. I really hope not!

kids like dostoyevsky apply with their native language because they can impress the admissions committee with the proficiency test and their general knowledge, and then they switch to the language they actually want to study when they get in. i'm not sure if it makes much of a difference in admissions, but i know of several people who have done this. i also know of people who have stuck with their native language and those who have gotten in applying with a language other than their native one.

i actually have an interest in russia....i want to learn advanced russian (such as business and intl politics lingo).....still, i think i will be switching to mandarin or french....either way, i will be taking russian courses....so its not like i "cheated" and found an easy way in....im still not sure what direction i want to go in, but i know that russian courses will be included no matter what....

yeah - it's kind of the same for me dostoyevsky

I really wanna get to know some professional korean because all the korean I know is kind of colloquial and that's not going to be good anywhere I go.

And I want to come back and work in Korea for the government so it's necessary that I have my target language as Korean so that I can have my study abroad in Korea.

I think I want to refine my Spanish too but I'd have to think about 'changing' because I know it'll be very hard for me to follow with the kids who've know Spanish all their life.

dont worry about others....just convery in your app that you wanna do korean for GOOD reason (not as a cop out).....and mention your interest in spanish too
