HYPMSC = safeties for me?

Nah just kidding :) However I really need some inputs for choices of safeties schools.

Basics:
Male
International student from Asia (not China/India/Korea though)
Not applying any F-aid
Premed or chemistry as major

Results:
School offers GCSE A-levels only: expect AAAB or AAAA
Most rigorous course load
Rank is likely to be top 2% but the official version is not available to students
For the previous batch of students, 1 went to Harvard, 4 to Princeton, 5 to Yale, 4 to MIT as far as I know

SAT I : CR 770; M 800; W 690 (my only attempt)
SAT II: Math II 800; Chemistry 800; Physics 800
AP: Cal BC 4 (calculator ran out of battery mid-exam, so brute-forced my way for the 2nd half of the paper); Physics B 5; Chemistry 5

Some school awards due to parts of my EC, see below.

EC:

Science:

Represented country in International Chemistry Olympiad, received silver medal, ranked about 60th internationally.
Represented country in China Western Math Olympiad, received bronze medal. (The prestige is a little bit lower than the China Girls Math Olympiad. My country used this as part of the selection for candidates for the IMO)
A bunch of local science olympiad medals
Conducted a research about silicon semiconductor in a national research institute under a professor.
Awarded 2 national highschool scholarships (1 for science achievements, 1 for overall results). Each of the scholarship is available to the top 1% of students in the country.

Non-Science:

Band until end of sophomore, tuba player, bass section leader, awarded gold in a national competition
2 major chinese opera productions in freshman and sophomore year each
100 hrs of community service (with a long term tuition at the community orphanage)

College list:
Princeton
Yale
MIT
Wash U
Duke
U Chicago

What are my chances to those schools? What are some of the safeties that I should consider? Thank you very much and I will try to chance back (though I dont think anyone will care about inputs from a international student though)

hahahahahaha I love your attention seeking title. genius :)

haha, after looking at the title, I was like waa!!!

bump 10char

You have some VERY impressive international awards! That said though, your writing score is low…and I’m not sure how impressive your GPA is. As an international student, your chances are automatically lower, but I’d say you have a pretty good shot in the pool you’re in :stuck_out_tongue:
So I assume you’re interested in math/science? For safeties, you should look at some state schools with strong programs in those areas- I know there are a bunch

^I agree:) You have demonstrated your talent on an international level, which is a positive attribution to your application. However, being an international student, it will be more difficult to gain acceptance into some of these top universitites. In addition to this, I suggest you improve your writing score. If you can get it up 10-30 points, I think your score would be looked at more favorably. Overall though, I’d say you have a good chance. Best of luck!

thx for the reply. I am worried about the lack of community involvement in my EC

bump again

well you DO need a safety, as there are thousands of top scoring AA’s applying to the same colleges. I suggest you add USC, UCLA, Michigan [ apply NOW as they have rolling admissions] and UCB to your list. Apply to USC before Dec 1. and you will likely hear back from admissions in Feb.,perhaps with a scholarship offer.
Are you planning on applying early ED/EA to any schools on your list? If not, you should at the very least apply EA to Chicago and MIT. Can’t hurt your chances and in most cases will help. You don’t have to commit to any EA college until you hear back from the rest.

thx for the suggestion. I’m an international student so a lot of EA/ED are unavailable for me. Furthermore I want to wait until RD since my country’s academic year ends after the deadline in Nov so quite a number of impt results are not out yet before Nov

Well you do certainly stand a chance. A word of caution though - I know that Princeton, Caltech and MIT summarily rejected 2 students with similar awards from Singapore last year (one with IChO silver, the other with IMO silver and IOI silver) so don’t count on being a shoo-in to HYPSMC at all - what with the competition like that in Singapore.

Presumably GCSE A-Levels is meant to be GCE A-Levels? Make sure you get that right on your app  I’m not going to chance you since I’m an international too & like you said, we’re not the experts. (:

very good chances for most schools you’re applying to. go write good essays and get good recommendations.

p.s. i think i’ve heard of you in school before.

omg I want to kidnap you and keep you from sending supplements lol
