Will you give up the chance to HYPSM and apply ED to M&T?
You need to have an incredible background to get into M&T. It’s extremely selective. Do you present a background that makes you a fit for that program?
It depends on what is a fit for you and your interests, as well as whether you have a realistic chance at these programs.
Have you visited all six schools? Where do you think you fit best?
How strong of a candidate are you? Why do you want to be in M&T? Are you more interested in engineering or business? Why? How strong are your relevant ECs? What are your goals?
M&T is a very specific program, for incredibly talented people with very specific interests. But for someone with those talents and interests, there are few options which compare. Certainly not HYP. Stanford and MIT have incredibly strong engineering and strong business schools, but neither has an integrated undergraduate program.
I guess I don’t understand the idea of “giving up” HYP for M&T. If it’s not clear, then M&T probably isn’t a good choice to begin with.
@f2000sa Most M&T students have turned down at least one of these schools. Tbh the only schools I would personally consider turning down M&T for are Stanford, MIT and maybe Princeton. In my opinion you should choose Penn over Yale for engineering anyway, not just M&T., if it comes to a choice between those two. There are quite a few Penn students who have turned down Yale for Penn, and that has a lot to do with the different culture, academic/professional strengths and culture between the two schools. On the other hand, you will not find many people at Penn who have turned down Harvard, Princeton or Stanford for Penn, apart from the people in the coordinated dual degree programs (LSM, M&T, Huntsman, Vagelos ). Especially Princeton or Stanford seem to be the number 1 choice of many/most Penn students, with Penn as their 2nd choice (this is based on so many discussions i ve had over my 3 years at Penn with other students).
@Penn95 “Especially Princeton or Stanford”
In my experience, Stanford yes, but Princeton not so much. Princeton can have a much different feel to many students, many of whom may decide to no even apply.
@Much2learn yeah I agree Stanford much more so than Princeton but I in my experience have met a significant number of people who had Princeton as their first choice. It is true, tho, that Stanford is the school with the most similar culture/feel to Penn, and that Princeton is fundamentally different.
