I-20 Transfer question

hey. I'm already on a F1 visa and I'm transferring schools pretty last minute. I'm waiting for my new I-20 from my school (got SEVIS transferred and all, just waiting for the paperwork) and was wondering whether I would have to get a new visa stamp from the US Consulate when I get it or can I still enter the US under my visa stamp which hasn't expired but it's under a different school but with my new I-20? sorry if this sounds confusing! (I'm currently not in the US so I'm not quite sure if I'm supposed to go make a visa appointment like when I first got my visa or not)

I've been told that I don't need to get a visa stamp if I already have one (provided that it is still valid) and that I can still reenter the US even if it's a different school as long as I bring along with me my new I-20 (with the new school on it). Is this correct?

That’s the same they tell transfer students at my college: you need a new I-20 but you don’t have to apply for a new visa (or get a new visa foil in your passport).

Yay thanks! I’ve just renewed my passport so can I just bring my old passport with my visa in it along with my new one or do I need to have it transferred to my new one?

one more question:

I just got my I-20, and on number 5 where it lists what you’re majoring in and the dates, the ‘and complete studies not later than’ part, it lists 01/20/2011! is this a mistake? or am i supposed to get a new i-20 every year?!

I am transfer student though, so maybe I get a new one when I arrive?

I have no idea. anyone??

You could call (or e-mail) and ask.

But yes, the college can easily give you an updated I-20 every semester. (I lost my I-20 once and went to the International Student Office in panic. I left the office with a new I-20 two minutes later.)
