did CTY one year (also don't know if worth mentioning)
got an article published in local newspaper
in science olympiads for all 4 years
academic bowl for three years, team was ranked first in nation for internet competitions, for in person competitions we participated in nationals sophomore year. Also took part in televised academic bowl competition...didn't even make it to the semifinals though lol (quite possibly leadership position in that next year)
Attended an engineering camp this summer
Also did research at a college this summer
I'm volunteering at a pharmacy at a local hospital this summer
and yeah thats pretty much it for ECs, though there may be some small stuff I forgot to mention.

About me:(I don't know if this even matters but i want you to get some picture of me)

I'm kind of liberal
I like math/sci, but I also sort of like writing
I'm read a lot of random stuff about anthropology and genetics on the internet
I like looking at political maps
I'm interested in doing engineering, not deadset on a specific field.

schools I'm interested in:
MIT
Cornell
Brown
Dartmouth

schools I'm interested in that I actually have a shot at:
CMU
NYU
Tufts
Brandeis
UMich

Thank you SO much for reading this...and if you know any schools for quirky, sorta nerdy types...haha.

oh yeah disregard the frowny face...I forgot to put a space after the colon...
embarrassed

I will give you the typical "You are a crapshoot for MIT, Cornell, Brown, Dartmouth" Pretty much everyone is that applies there.

You are a mach for all your others; possibly NYU qualifies as a safety

Wrong forum, but yeah, you are a pretty typical applicant at the more elite schools on your lists. I would say probably rejected at at least two of those schools, but accepted everywhere else (strong admit). NYU could definitely be a safety, based on your strong SAT scores.

P.S. Don't take the ACT, your SAT score is high enough.

Yeah. Agree with above. No need to take ACT. And you'll mess up my percentile and curve.

Yea NYU is deff a safety.
lmao ^ msneircirenee "No need to take ACT. And you'll mess up my percentile and curve." <----- second that :)

hahhahaa you dont consider yourself asian?

dude you should still put asian
just because you don't feel like one, doesn't mean you aren't one
that's like a white person putting African American cuz he doesn't feel white lol
and adcoms might be like...doesn't he realize indian is asian?
i guess it doesn't matter haha

I think you have a great shot at any of the schools you think you actually have a shot at. I also think you have a chance at your top 4 because of your great SAT score.

wait. are you just gonna put down caucasian??? idk if that will work.

he'll prolly put down other and then write indian so the adcoms are gonna be like that's asian lol

Asians rule!!! Put down Asian.

uh no its just that i don't consider myself "asian" (do chinese ppl and indian ppl look anything alike?) and im pretty dark skinned...if anything i consider myself sorta black...but im not putting that down cause its not allowed, and it'd be lame that i'd get affirmative action (which i really really disapprove of)

so im just not marking down my race...

Just to let you know, by not marking down your race, adcoms will assume you are either asian or white, if they can't tell from other aspects of your application (name, activities, neighborhood, etc)

well, its easy to see what u're doing. u aren't marking ASIAN not because u don't feel ASIAN (even though u certainly are) but because it lowers ur chances at these schools. It's an strategic move to not report an Over Represented Minority....thats all. ADCOMS will see right through just by ur last name and social security.

idk it really has not strategic anything or what not in my opinion...i just don't consider myself asian...or even indian for that matter...first glance i look caribbean black or something.

"indian" constitutes a plethora of different ethnic groups which all look different and ARE different from each other. So I don't see why I should be considered the same as a group of people who just happen to be from the same country...when in reality i look like an entirely different group of people.

i understand entirely what you're doing with not marking a race-- i feel the same exact way, because my dad's hispanic but i wasn't raised with his hispanic culture or heritage, so i consider myself white, because that's the way i was raised. so i don't think you're using it as a 'strategy', that sounds really silly, something like marking asian or other won't get you in or out of any school on your list. just thought i give my two cents in deffending you point. and i agree that nyu is definetly a safety for you and you're probably in at all of the school on your 'shot' list and you're strong enough to be considered at your 'higher' schools, but there's nothing more you can do than try and stand out with essays and all that jazzzzz. good luck!

^^^^wait dont tell me u are marking caucasian in ur application, cuz thats just plain stupid if u do, even though ur dad's hispanic.

u might not want to say it, but i know everyone thinks the same, if u're black or hispanic, USE it, it REALLY improves ur odds. its not dishonest, its a matter of life.
