I already spelled my name wrong.

I started filling out the common app today, and after I filled out that first information thing all the information I entered showed up, and I realized that I spelled my last name wrong. Anddddd it won't let me fix it.

My last name is "Stroope" and I put "Strppe." So IDK if it's like a huuuge deal? Could I call?

I tried to click the box to edit it and then click save and continue, but it wouldn't let me. Do I have to completely start over? Will it even let me?

...or is there some super secret method to go back and edit?

Thanks.

It said on the first page that the information on that page would not be able to be edited later, so I think you need to call them.

haha college pressure getting to you already??
Yeah I think you can call them, or just make a new account

is it just me or does it seem like the submit application button too easily accidentally clicked?
the whole online thing makes it seem less monumental than it actually is

I would make a new account. It would probably much less of a hassle.

@sunfire

Haha, I agree. I saw that submit button and it scared the bejesus out of me. I kept thinking about if I accidentally clicked it without filling out most of my information and if it somehow didn’t complain… I had visions of my life deteriorating before my eyes as admissions officers saw no SAT scores, no ACT scores, no extracurriculars, no essay… just a name and the demographic information.

I would just create a new account.

I noticed the whole “cannot be edited” thing, but that was only in the box that asked whether you were a First Year or Transfer student. There was a solid black line between the edit statement and the demographic info section. So wouldn’t that imply that the “type of applicant Q” is the only thing that cant be edited? If not, the common app people are morons and have to redesign it because people like me will get confused.

This is so scary.

Can you make a new account with the same name/address etc and still be fine?

I actually accidentally clicked the submit button today because my mouse is so messed up and i was just scrolling down
but don’t worry if you don’t check off the boxes and agreements before submit it doesn’t let you submit anything so it’s pretty good that way. it gave me SUCH a scare though when i saw the page reload

Oh, i wish there was a pop up asking “are you sure” or something

Make a new account…

Yeah, I messed up my address haha. If you fixed your problem, I’d love to know how you did it Brett.

I ended up creating a new account. Trying to fix my mistake was basically the most pointless thing ever.

hahaha so only one day after commenting on this thread, i realized that i typed the wrong zip code in for my address. it wouldnt let me change it for some reason, so I contacted commonapp in the “help” section, I believe. They emailed me back within the day, and they fixed it. Props to them!

Isn’t there an Applicant section in the common app where you can change it?

yeah there is, but i typed the wrong zip code in when i registered, so it wouldnt let me change that

Hahaha, I had the exact same thought. But I clicked it, because I’m badass like that. It just lists things you still have to do. And besides, until they get your credit card info, your app isn’t going anywhere.

You know what’s weird, for one of my apps it has that green arrow (that means it’s been submitted) for the payment of the application. I definitely didn’t pay for anything/enter credit card info…so I don’t really know what’s going on.

Some schools waive the fee if you submit your application online.

^I wasn’t aware of that, but I don’t think Stanford does that… Even though it has that green arrow next to the “Payment” category, it says “Not Submitted” for everything. Oh well, it probably isn’t that big of a problem.

I sent them an email yesterday about the mistake in my address, and they fixed it within 24 hours.
