I'll ask you Outono Noite, since you've been quite responsive and intelligent.

I'm a music/film addict. How close are film theaters and music stores to campus? I won't have a car so I need something that's within walking distance or is there a campus bus or something?

Well, as for Theaters, there is one across the street that screens everything new and even some indie films - so you shouldnt worry about the film side of things. As for music - well, there is a music shop across the street, but its kind of small. Your best bet is to either hitch a ride from a friend to the malls, the bus (we have buses come by all the time to take you to the nearby malls), or just hit up Amazon.com.

If you can snag a bus, there is a Tower Records about 5-7 minutes away, 2 malls within a 5 mile range (both of which are fancy as hell), and if youre feeling like a journey, there are buses that will take you to LA/Hollywood - if you get out there Id hit up Amoeba records - it doesnt get any better than that place.

My weighted GPA was around 3.5 or 3.6
ACT: didn't take
SAT: 1820
Extra curriculars: Various community service/volunteering, employment as a web designer for engineering company, and that's about it really. I can't remember too well what I put...

I plan on majoring in Political Science and minoring in English or History but I'm not totally sure.

I think Irvine is really weird with their admissions. I know lots of people that got into UCD/UCSD/UCSB but got rejected to UCI, and people with much better stats than me getting rejected there as well. Whereas I got rejected to all three of those but got into UCI.

Yeah clubs are good, and 30 hours of community service is decent. My advice is to just spread things out and balance. Good grades and test scores are more important than EC's, but just as long as you didn't do nothing you'll be fine.

Normally, clubs are only good if it's something like Key Club or CSF. Although being in an anime club is (I think) cool, it doesn't look that great (sorry). Community service hours are huge. a good amount of hours would be 300 or more at more than one place. Most of the time, academics take up 75%+ of your admissions process.

Across the street means literally, across the street - say, 3 minutes walking.

Dorm no matter what your first year - youll miss out on a lot if you dont. Think about it this way - a 2 bedroom apartment with 5 people living in it will cost EACH of you around $400 per person (just for rent) - then you have to add on food and utilities - youre nuts to not dorm your first year.

As for AVG GPA, ECs, etc... - ughh, I cant really put it shortly. To say the least theyre all involved in clubs ranging from College Democrats to Business Clubs - others intern for Pharmacies, investment firms, hospitals, etc...

Almost all of their GPAs are above 3.2 and many are around 3.5. As high school kids, their GPAs were around 3.6ish and had SAT scores of around the 1100-1300 range (old SAT scores).

lol, yea it is. I would like to say, though, some schools couldn't care less about clubs (i.e. ucdavis and ucsd). You would need to be a leader in there to look better.

There isnt a surf team per say, but there is a board club that plans huge snowboard trips that are UC wide and usually head to Tahoe or Mammoth.
