I am confused about maintaining my GPA?

Hey all, new here,

Well I got accepted to SDSU as a transfer student and I remember reading in the supplemental application and filling it out that I must maintain my GPA (overall GPA) that I put down in the supplemental application. It stated that if I didn't maintain it my admission would be rescinded. My question is, if I need to maintain my gpa (which is 3.86) does that mean that I must be required to get all A's this semester? If I got 2 B's, would that be bad for my GPA? Or one C? I am confused at what they mean. I'd sure love some help on this.

Usually schools assign more value to higher unit classes. For instance, an A in a 4 unit class would be worth 4 points, but in a 2 unit class, only 2. Because individual schools might calculate their gpa’s differently, you should ask you appropriate school office to help you calculate what you need.

DivZero,

An A in a 4 unit class is worth 16 points. An A in a 3 units class is 12 points. It’s calculated like that in all CSU’s, UC’s and CC’s.

regardless of the amount of units and A equals 4 points, a B equals 3 points, C equals 2 points, D equals 1 point and F equals 0.

You then take that point for whatever grade you got and multiply it by the units that class is.

So a B in a 4 units class is 3 (pts) x 4 (units) = 12 points.

They are basically saying you need to maintain close to what you have. A couple A’s, B’s, and maybe a C would be fine. maintain something close to the GPA you put down. They just don’t want you to get like a 2.5 or something next semester. My friend got accepted for fall 2011 at SDSU and was put on the wait list because he got a 2.2 the semester after he applied.

I agree with Camparsi, you don’t necessarily have to get straight As this semester, but they want to make sure you don’t completely fail everything.
