I am desperately in need of your opinions on what I should base my essay on

Okay, so here are a few ideas that I have for my essays...if they all suck, just tell me so:

1) Essay about how my move to a private school (initially was in a crappy public school) changed my outlook on education. I posted this on Reddit, but according to the users there, this essay kinda dove to deep on the matter of why my GPA isn't swell. Is it a bad idea though? I did talk about how when I moved to the private school that I failed a LOT of classes.

2) Essay about me challenging the idea of the NSA being okay. I recently worked really hard to get people to protest the NSA by using different marketing tactics and such. The bad thing about this is that it is a bit political. Annnd one of the schools that i'm applying to apparently works with the NSA. Extremely bad idea?

3) Essay about me taking care of my younger sister after my parents separated from each other. I feel as though this one would be a really boring topic?

4) Essay about me fighting back against internet trolls that leaked a bunch of illegal pictures of minors on the blogging website that I go on. This seems too personal and a bit childish to write about?

Pleeeease help me. I'm dying over here because I absolutely cannot think of ANY decent idea to write about. What do you guys think of my current ones? Any suggestions?

I would say #3 is best. And it’s only as boring as you make it.

I like #2. But you don’t need something big to write a great essay. Just keep that in mind.

I like 3 the best. It could be boring if written incorrectly, but it could be super powerful and show your maturity if written well. I dont think you should write 2 if the schools you are applying to support nsa openly.

3 is best but if you think that’ll be boring then it probably will be and you need to think harder

I would avoid #2 simply because if an admission officer happens to have an opposing view and is not too open minded it could work against you. However, if you focus the essay on the unique tactics you used and not your views it might work, but it’s still kind of risky. 3 is the best out of the ones you have, but make sure you write it well and somehow make it stand out from the other essays about the same topic (it’s guaranteed to happen). To be honest I think you should spend a while longer thinking about topics- you might come up with something great.

The best topic for you is the one that allows you to write your most personal, detailed, and revealing essay: the essay that is so tangerino that only you could write it.

Only you can know what that topic might be.

With regard to your ideas:

Don’t devote your personal essay to explaining why your grades were bad. If that needs to be discussed, submit a supplemental statement.

There is nothing wrong with the topic of taking care of your sister. There are NO boring topics. There are only boring treatments of topics.

Number one would be interesting if you avoid the subject of grades and talk about your struggle with culture shock (if there is one) if you stick to interesting examples that reflect you as a person. I wouldn’t discuss grades at all. If you need to explain your grades, do that in a conversation with someone at the college, not in your essay.
2 could be good–but how do you make it personal? 3 could be great if you keep it personal and gripping, not if you think it is boring. I would go ahead and write drafts for both, and see which you are most excited about.

Have you looked at the essayhell web site? It’s great. I would go there first.
