Hello everyone, as a soon to be freshman, I am very worried that my class choices might affect my college options, as I am not sure how it might “look” to colleges. What worries me the most is that my school is one of the very few schools in the US who give Chemistry Honors as a freshman level class and combined with me doing geometry that I could not handle the tests because i wouldn’t have enough time to study, and I am incredibly worried that if I don’t do as good as others, then colleges will just see it as “bad”. Because I felt that I could not handle Chemistry Honors with CP Geometry, I changed my schedule in order to do so. In order to do that I had to remove my elective which was Food and Nutrition and replace it for Spanish 1. My problem is that I Speak Spanish fluently and that would look like I’m trying to cheat a grade. I am asking you if you will think if this will look bad to colleges. If it helps, I am also taking French.
Well, Food and Nutrition won’t impress. In some districts, t’s a requirement. That’s all.
Look, as a pre-freshman, you don’t yet know what colleges look for. Why not learn what you can, straight from the sources, not some forum? Pick any college and look through all they say and what’s hinted between the lines.
Lots of kids will start tougher than chem honors. Lots won’t. See how you make it through 9th, then adjust. Maybe you never take another Span class, stick with French, and this worry is for nothing.
Four only real worry now is not performing your best in your freshman classes.
