Hello,
I was recently suspended from my university due to having a 1.78 GPA. I was told that I can appeal and make a pretty strong case. I have written an appeal letter, but I do not have anyone to proofread it for me or offer advice/suggestions. I have been extremely depressed about being suspended. Could you proofread my letter for me if I message it to you? It would mean the world.
Thanks,
Please hang in there and don’t give up!!
I can offer suggestions and possible edits, but I won’t do them for you. STAY STRONG. Just message me anytime
Please call your counseling center NOW and make an appointment.
Yes, make the move to talk to someone live and in person, not a message board! This too shall pass. And then continue with some counseling to be sure you are not in over your head academically. Stress is unhealthy. While its always good to challenge yourself, there are limits. Please, call someone you know and love, let them help you.
Go to your health center on campus today and talk with a counselor. Ask a friend or roomate to go with you. Then, make an appointment to meet with an advocate at student services to help you with your appeal. You will get through this.
Sure, I’ll read it.
If you are depressed about the suspension, that is one thing and you should definitely go to the counseling center to talk to someone. If you had trouble with school because you were alreay depressed, I hope you will consider seeing someone who can provide medication to get you over the hump and back to functioning at your best. Meds like SSRI’s can make a world of difference, and quite quickly.
There are no irrevocable disasters in life. Please believe that.
After dropping out of college, the CEO of my company was fired from 13 (yes 13!) jobs before he started his own company. Many successful people have gone through incredible let downs at one time or another. This may seem insurmountable today, but bumps are what make us who we are. This happened for a reason, you just don’t know what that reason is yet. But you have to stick around to find out. Someday you will be somewhere great and think, gosh, I wouldn’t be here today if I hadn’t have got suspended…it all worked out. Wait for that time, it will surely come. But for today, get over to counseling office, if they aren’t there call a friend, call home (if you can and you would get support there), find your RA if in a dorm, people are there for you - please ask for some help from someone on campus. If you really don’t have anyone and need serious help, call 911.
You need to call someone right away.
I’m making some assumptions on your overall performance in college based on the suspension guidelines for your university, which say that first you are put on probation for a term, and then are suspended if your overall GPA is less than a 2.0. I believe in another thread you said you were a junior, so it sounds like you have been struggling for awhile if your GPA is under 2.0. This might not be the right environment for you, and there is nothing wrong with that - nor with taking a little time off to get your head together, even going to community college for a semester or two. My cousin’s son did exactly that - his first college was not a good fit, he didn’t get the support he needed, he left and went to CC for a year (and did really well), then went to a new college which was a much better fit for him.
It seems like the end of the world but it isn’t - and you need someone to guide you through this.
Again, call your school counseling service as soon as possible.
