I am getting targeted with Academic Dishonesty because I shared my assignments with another student

Since these online classes stuff started I was at a loss when other students would ask for my help. Classification and helping them understand the assignments. Over the term I sent a classmate a few assignments to compare and contrast the work they completed, not knowing they didn’t complete it. This student took my work and turned it in as their own.

I do not see this as cheating, they are saying I instigated it but I am not an online learner I had no idea how to help otherwise. Their hours are different than mine and I was always being told by professors to collaborate with each other. Therefore, I thought I was collaborating. I am not being punished for what this student did, how is this fair? I did nothing wrong, I was told to help others and that is what I was doing.
Is it my fault that they cheated? I don’t see it, I may have sent them the assignment but to compare and contrast, therefore, it was not my mouse that copied and pasted the assignment, it was not my job to be like don’t steal my work that sound be second nature.

Also, I am from literally the middle of now where homeschooled, college working together is very new to me

This is a good lesson for you. You shared your entire assignment with someone who copied it and submitted the work as his or her own. Next time you are asked for help, make your classmates ask specific questions that you can help them with or encourage them where to look for the answers on their own. You might want to look at the specific wording for academic integrity on your syllabus.

You signed something about this. You should have read it first. Why are people asking you for help?

I sympathize with you, OP. It is okay to help people, but that does NOT mean sharing your exact work. Once it is out there, you have no control over it or what the person you shared it with might do with it, as you found out.

“Helping others” means you may explain your interpretation of the assignment and maybe going over your outline in vague terms, but that’s IT. You might share suggestions, but never share your work. Helping may mean inspiring, but not completing the assignment FOR another person.

Hopefully you submitted your assignment before the other person. That helps your case. Still, some professors will consider it to be cheating, even if unintentional.

Lesson learned the hard way. Coss this classmate off your friend and study group list permanently.

It sucks, but, from the point of view of the professor, you helped somebody else cheat. Moreover, check the syllabus. If the syllabus states that you cannot share your work with another student, your intentions do not matter.
