Hey guys, my grades are poor but I want to go to good college for undergraduate course. So, what should I do now?
What grade are you in? Home State? SAT/ACT scores? Intended major or area of study? How poor are your grades, GPA?
I’ve recently completed my A-levels from Nepal. I have not taken any tests yet but my SAT is due on October 3. So, now I’m preparing for it. And when I took practice test yesterday my scores were 1740. I want to work hard to raise my scores to 2000+ but is that possible in this one month period? The transcripts are not ready from the school so I am unable to see my reports. But I know my grades. I studied management and had taken the examination of 6 subjects. So, here are my grades: Econnomics-B, Accounting-C, Compulsory mathematics-C, General Paper-C, English language-D and Business studies-E.I wanna do majors on economics so what should I do now?
How much can you and your family afford? Are you in need of financial aid? What schools in the US are you interested in attending?
I am not sure how much they can pay and I’ve a family problem that my parents got divorce when I was 1 and half years old. So, my childhood was messed up and now that my mom is a nurse with a reasonable salary for Nepal but she does not pay for my tuition fees. And that my father is a teacher at the government school and he does not earn more. So, I need a good scholarship. I don’t have any specific interest on what schools to attend but I wanna go to the liberal arts college with good scholarship. Will my SAT scores cover my grades if I do well??
I am not familiar with your grading system, so I would post in the International students forum. Grades are a very large part of getting scholarships along with your SAT scores, so you will have a hard time finding enough scholarships to cover your tuition/room/board. Most generous scholarships are awarded to the top applicants.
LAC (Liberal arts colleges) are usually private meaning costs can range from $45K up to $70K/year to attend. You really need to find out how much parents can contribute to your college costs. Then take a look at some schools average SAT and GPA by googling common dataset for each school. Also run the Net price calculators for each school to determine your costs. Due to divorce, they will not be too accurate but it will give you a ball park cost.
You could also look at these links for scholarships available to international students:
I came to know that A-levels grades have 1 credit for each subject and 0.5 for as-level only. So, we don’t have to calculate our GPA because everyone who studies A-levels does not study all subjects and the mimimum credit we need is 3.
And thank you for the suggestions and the link.
