I am not a turtle fish!!! Rawrawrawr!!!

-Florida resident
-Caucasian
-Female
-Senior (graduating in May of 2012)
-Dual Enrollment student since May of 2009 (my freshman year of high school); will graduate high school with my Associate of Arts degree as well.

Rank: Top 10% of senior class (approximately 380 students)

Unweighted GPA: 3.2 last time I checked, but I have taken some college classes this summer which means it is probably a bit higher than that.
Weighted GPA: 4.32 last time I checked but, again, due to the college classes I took this summer, it should be higher than that.

ACT score: 1st time - 26 composite (English 29, Math 22, Reading 28, Science 25, Writing 27)
2nd time - 27 composite (English 34, Math 23, Reading 28, Science 21, Writing 31)
(Taking ACT one more time in September to try to get at least a 28 for Florida Bright Futures 100% scholarship.)

High School Course Load: extremely rigorous; majority of classes were Honors, Advanced Placement, and Dual Enrollment.

Side-note: I am going to be spending my senior year of high school on the college campus that I have taken my Dual Enrollment courses at, but I will be considered an Early Admissions student being that I have all of my high school requirements fulfilled and will be a full-time college student. My classes are still paid for by the school district. Yay me! Though I won't have a typical "senior year," the classes I take through the college will still effect my high school GPA and, hopefully, boost it up.

Senior Year Course Load:
Fall Semester (August-December)
-Adolescent Psychology
-British Lit/Culture I: to 1780
-Intro to Teaching Profession
-Lit of the U.S. I: to 1860

Spring Semester (January-May)
-Statistics
-Photography I
-World Literature I
-Creative Writing I

Extracurriculars:
-National Honor Society Member (10, 11, 12 grades)
-Yearbook (11th grade; 12th grade I am Editor)
-Volunteering (approximately 120+ hours)
-Work (I work at a law firm and have worked there for four years part-time)

My intended major is English. I hope to ultimately earn my PhD and become an English professor.

I would like to be chanced for University of Florida, University of South Florida, University of Central Florida, and Florida Gulf Coast University. Any other questions, feel free to ask! Thanks in advance!

I think other than your ACT score, you have good chances at all the schools. With a 26 ACT you still have good very good chances at all the schools except UF (but still decent chances at UF). As a part of the top 10% of your class, I am assuming your GPA is decent. Even though it is 3.2, you’re good in relation to others in your class. Just get A’s as a senior for an upward trend.

I would just raise the test scores, and you’re in anywhere in Florida. Currently, you’re in anywhere except for maybe not UF. Of course this is assuming your essays etc. work out. On paper you look good. Good luck.

Thanks so much, Engineerjw! My first ACT was a 26, the second time it was a 27. Haha. I know, not much of a difference, but at least I improved. UF is my first choice, so I really hope I’m “in”! Thanks again!

You will definitely get in to all the schools.I had a 27 ACT and was accepted for Fall at the University of Florida,University of Miami,NYU,UCF and FSU. I did not have all the amazing Dual Enrollment you have though.A lot of factors played into my acceptance of course but I was very similar to you. Good luck Future Gator ;)

Thank you very much, gator27! I am sooo nervous! I’ve been picturing this letter from UF in my head, but I can’t tell if it’s an acceptance or rejection! Haha! Thanks for calming my nerves! :)

Yeah…you’re in pretty much anywhere you want! Also, remember, you can be classified a transfer student! Much easier as you are going in as a college junior!

Your test scores won’t be as relevant. Rock the interviews. If you had thoughts of OOS, I would say to go for it!

:) Thanks, Chargers2012! Well, they say that Dual Enrollment/Early Admissions students, even if we earn our AA upon graduating high school, are still considered Freshmen upon entering university. :o They say the only reason is so we can still qualify for Freshmen scholarships. I could probably sign up as a transfer if I wanted to, though. Just another thing to think about!

You will first be considered for “freshman admission with advanced standing (junior status).” If you do not make the cut you will then be evaluated as a transfer student with an AA. You have a good chance either way. For transfer admission, you need to meet certain criteria for your major. What major are you declaring? THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT in case you do not get in as a freshman but as a transfer.

:) Thanks for the help and info, sunnyflorida. I actually didn’t know all of that! My declared major is going to be English. :)

Bump. Anyone else? :D

I think you’ll get in to all of the schools, honestly. I also want to agree with gator27 - your ACT is within the range at UF. Sure, a 29 would help more but a 27 is most certainly respectable. UF is a good match since you have solid stats and rigorous course work. And the rigor will certainly be taken into account! Make sure you write some solid essays and I’d say you’re set.

I know UCF & USF have become more competitive but I’d still consider them safeties for you. Are you not applying to FSU ??

Don’t even worry about FGCU. If you have any more questions about the UF admissions/application process feel free to ask!

Thanks so much! Definitely eased my mind! I’m not applying to FSU. It used to be my dream school before UF, but it’s ten hours away from where my parents live… That’s a little too far for me… Haha. :)
