I am trying to write an Engineering essay and realized that I have nothing to say that is not a cliché. I am an average high stats student with no major accomplishments or any research experience. What do I write about?
Do you have any activities that involve critical thinking/problem solving?
How about writing why you want to be an engineer? Is there a compelling reason?
Because It is interesting and all school level sciences come natural to me versus history, government, etc. Because I would be a third generation engineer. Because it is a solid profession.
None of this is a good essay topic.
There is always a story in there somewhere - the trick in an essay is to embellish an average life story to make it sound more interesting.
What engineers were an inspiration to you and why? There is always at least one who you must think highly of. Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Edison, Henry Ford, etc. all make good essay topics if you are good with words. It isn’t a cliche if you use common topics unless you are beating a dead horse.
Why did your family choose engineering, and why do you want to continue that line? Any relatives that have done anything particularly impressive in their work? Sure, it might be a stable career, but it is only one of many.
Why do sciences come more naturally to you? Certainly there must be some interest there, because they aren’t exactly easier topics. A very sizeable fraction of the population would rather never touch these subjects for the rest of their lives after they finish the required sequence, so why do you feel differently?
All of these ideas could be made into an essay. You could even make an essay out of all of them if you really don’t have that much to elaborate on each individual topic.
It’s ok… most students lack research experience.
"Because It is interesting " - maybe you can elaborate on why you think so.
