I am planning to take Managerial Accounting this summer

Hello Everyone!

I am planning to take Managerial Accounting (ACC 202) this Summer. The session lasts only one month and two weeks. One of my co-worker and a friend discouraged me to take this class in summer, because it is very demanding. Is it true?

Thanks

It may be very demanding, but if you are planning on majoring in accounting it would be a bad idea. Such a rushed class would insure that material is skipped or easily forgotten.

Managerial accounting isn’t difficult compared to cost accounting or intermediate accounting, or tax. I would think you’d be fine but that depends on how much time you’ll have to devote to the class and how it’s taught.

I took it over the summer in a course that was 6 weeks. I’d say you’ll be fine as long as you’re comfortable doing that amount of reading and homework on a daily basis since you end up doing multiple chapters per week.

Hey, I am in the same boat. I am taking intro to financial accounting and intro to managerial accouting over seven weeks.

Almost two years ago, I took financial accounting and managerial accounting back-to-back. Both courses were accelerated 8-week sessions. In my opinion, managerial required more effort than financial.

I did pretty well considering the conditions (20 units that semester) and the fact that I really didn’t do much studying. I gained all my knowledge from lectures, in-class case studies, and some bookwork at home.

Having said that, you could do just as good, if not better. Just keep on top of things, get involved, and, what helped me the most, get to know your classmates.

Good luck!

Most students find the intro to managerial accounting to be more demanding than the intro to financial accounting. I’ve been teaching both for almost 20 years and the financial accounting is very formulaic and requires less analytical ability than the managerial class. You should be a good problem solver to succeed in a fast track managerial class.
