Here are my stats Applying as a transfer student (sophmore) with 31 college credits

HS Stats

GPA 2.2
SAT 580 CR 560M 580 W
Rank: Somewhere near 50%
EC's/volunteering: Amateur filming and acting (100+ hours), volunteering at temple.
Work Experience: Working since beginning of sophmore year (1000 Hours?) (father lost job).

TURN AROUND POINT

College Stats:

31 Credits
GPA 3.8
EC's/ volunteer: Amateur filming and acting (100+ hours), playing billiards (60+ hours), teaching Hebrew at religious school to young kids (35 hours), setting up activities for kids and teaching aid in class, organizing activities for children (all religious school related).

Work Experience: In addition to working in high school, I now have to work just to be able to get myself to college. It is about a 50 mile drive one-way. Parents will not pay for gas, car insurance, anything car related. So in essence if I want to go to college, I have to do it myself.

Colleges applying to AS SOPHMORE TRANSFER:

Lafayette College
Drew University
Franklin and Marshall College
Albright College
Moravian College

I don't think playing pool is an EC. An EC is not the same thing as a hobby...some college students spend 5 hours a week playing beer pong...it's not an EC.

grey syntactics, you obviously have not read my whole post. Clearly it says that I have to WORK AT MY JOB JUST TO GET TO COLLEGE. But as for the billiards thing, fair enough. I wont count it. Minus billiards can anyone chance me?

Ah. I didn't read any further after reading that you spend potentially 25 hours a week playing pool. Much less did I assume you have a job, haha.

Anyway, your chances might be stifled by your HS GPA since you are applying for sophomore standing. Will you have 31 credits when you apply or by the end of Spring 2009 prior to enrolling?

No I apologize also. I mean I spend 4-5 hours a week. I clearly worded it wrong.

Anyway, I will have 31 credits by the end of Spring of 2009. The way I see it, after this semester if the college is still interested they will ask for second semester grades right? I could be totally wrong, but I can only imagine its still worth a shot.

oh you only spend 4-5 hrs per week? sorry I thought you said per day...haha. Still, unless it's the College Billiards Club or something, it's technically not an EC.

Alright, enough of this billiards stuff. People on these boards seem more concentrated on blemishes of applications and transcripts than helping others out. I guess we are all three year olds here.

Anyway, even after compiling 31 credits and a GPA of 3.8 that signals I am ready for college coursework isnt enough?

You will be able to get into Drew, Albright, and Moravian. Lafayette and F&M will be more difficult.

Since your grade change is so dramatic, your admission to the two more competitive schools will depend A LOT on your essay. I had a similar turn around. My GPA in high school was poor and my first year college grades were very good. I am certain that my essay is what allowed me to get accepted into my new school. I used it to explain my dramatic grade change and how I had changed. You should do the same.
