YES!!! It's a chances thread everyone!! Top 25 chances please...please

I hate to bother everyone with a chances thread, but I guess it’s a temptation we all must succumb to sooner or later in the transfer admission process, so if you would all be so kind….Please Help!

Stats:

Current College: Texas State University
College GPA: 4.0
Total Hours: 48 (enrolled for 20 hours next semester)
Applying for: Junior admission
Major: History
College ECs: President of an academic club (club is very active on campus and community), Secretary of a medical volunteer service (volunteer once a month in Mexico), paid tutor, honors program, Army ROTC 4 year athlete scholar/ cadet of the year/ airborne school graduate/post colors at school football games, member of intercollegiate team (very time consuming…practice at minimum Mon.-Fri 5am-7am, member of several honor societies, etc.
SAT: 640v 500m
Hs GPA: 3.9/6.0= barely in the top 35% (4.6 junior GPA and 5.4 Senior, so upward trend since soph year of hs)
Hs ECs: (Several varsity sports at 5a school, national leadership awards, Scholastic Writing Competition gold key, finalist for theatre competition, Who’s Who of my high school: 6 students voted by peers out of graduating class of 800, other stuff but I probably won’t mention high school accomplishments because by the time I matriculate somewhere next year these awards will be at least 3 years old

Applying to (in no particular order…except UT which is in its proper place):
Emory
Washington U-Stl
Johns Hopkins
Wake Forest
Brandeis
University of Tejas- Austin (that’s Texas for ya’ll yankees…j/k)

So, I pretty much know my SAT is killing me here….when I return to school next fall it will have been 4 years since I took it at the beginning of my junior year of hs, and it reflects my freshman and sophomore grades of hs accordingly. However, since I’ve taken my SAT, my grades have gradually improved as I’ve matured. I’m also much stronger in math now…having scored the second top grade in my college Algebra class out of a seminar of over 50, and expecting very high score in Calc. Still, I haven’t decided if I should take the new SAT…I haven’t had geometry since forever, and I have little time to review with my schedule. I’m planning on contacting the admissions office of the specific schools I’m applying to, but I wanted to hear everyone’s advice first; regarding my chances to the aforementioned universities and whether or not I should retake the standardized test, since the SAT is designed to predict college success and I’ve already maintained a 4.0 for 48 hrs.

Also, if anyone wants to toss in their own suggested school’s I would be very appreciative (I’m looking for a private school somewhere in the top 35ish; location not important).

Sorry for the long thread, and thanks in advance to anyone with enough endurance to read all this and respond!

I would say with certainty that you'd get in Austin and Emory (because of their noted rates).

I dunno how WUSTL would consider your low SAT.

bump............

Emory - match
Washington U-Stl - dunno
Johns Hopkins - reach (not sure how they'd view your HS which arnt JHU standards)
Wake Forest - reach (OOS)
Brandeis - dunno
University of Tejas- Austin - match/safety

Actually, forget my comment about the low SATs as for Junior transfers they don't carry a negative weight.

With your 4.0 for 3 semesters, you look good.

Emory...Match
Washington U...Match/Reach
Johns Hopkins...Reach
Wake Forest...Match/Reach
Brandeis...Match
UTexas...Match/Safety

Thanks for everyone's contributions... I thought some of my schools were reaches, but I find them each enthralling for their own unique attributes. Besides, "reaching" implies a positive connotation since it assumes one is striving against adversity and odds to achieve a higher realm, so I figure the more reaches the better (I say this as my ravished wallet curses me from the 5th circle of Hell)

Dearsiryes, I sure wish you could be on the admissions board bro. The SAT thing kind of perplexes me....some colleges seem to care, while others may completely overlook it, and still most view it to an extent. I guess the wisest course of action is for me to contact my specific schools.

Shoebox:

Wake Forest - reach (OOS)

Just wondering for my own intelligence...does Wake care about state of residence? 72% of last fall's incoming freshmen were from out of state..

Also, for all:

Is Emory really that easy to get into? I've seen a lot of people posting stats that Emory's transfer rate is near the 50% mark, but USNews 07' quotes it at 34%, granted that even the latter is a generous stat compared to other top schools. Still, Emory owns a prestigious reputation and a vast majority of the 34% accepted, I would assume, are gifted students that were probably accepted to even more renowned institutions. While I'm honored that many of you felt I stand an ample chance of acceptance to Emory, I just wanted to know if anyone had any knowledge of previous transfer students that were accepted to Emory without nearly stellar stats across the board?

Yeah, if you want. I really agree that after 48 hours at TSU with a 4.0, they won't be considering the SATs much.

By the way, the 50% and the 34% stats for Emory arise as follows:

Of the 351 applicants, 121 were admitted, a 34% acceptance rate. Of these 351 applicants, 142 were men.

Of the 142 male applicants, 75 were accepted, a 52.8% acceptance rate.

Of the 209 female applicants, 45 were accepted, a 21.5% acceptance rate.

The relative breakdown of these rates should continue this year as Emory's incoming freshman class was 55% female and 45% male.

wow that's pretty cool. too bad it's in atlanta :(

Hahahahha! Don't you know that's were all the dirrrrty souf rappers live?

Interesting. Emory attempts to correct for the gender imbalance of the freshman class by admitting more male transfers than female transfers. Does this happen at other universities as well?

Oh, and, if you go to Emory, you are guaranteed to meet a rapper. They are everywhere in Atlanta. On a serious note, Atlanta is a neat city.

um... one thing about wake forest. some guy posted his college visit at wake forest and he said that if a campus life of polo shirts, starched khakis, and unusually buff girls hanging on to their boyfriends while talking about the finer things in life interests u. then go

dont go to wake forest.... beware... beware.... woooo (ghost sounds)

Wow, those numbers are heartening. I wouldn’t mind living in the mean streets of ATL if it meant I could receive an Emory education. Besides, the immediate proximity of Emory to Atlanta’s rap scene is merely a vestibule into a unique and vibrant culture, which could potentially yield exciting extracurricular opportunities for the university’s poetry club in the form flow battles. It never hurts to be well-rounded. But seriously, Lil Wayne goes to University of Houston, so my vote would be for h-twn if one was candidly interested in schmoozing with the rap moguls of the south.

wats emory's mascot?

lol, idk the unusually buff girls part sounds kind of kinky....j/k. I'm actually excited about applying to Wake, although not for the aforementioned details of course. Besides, coming from a public university with nearly 30,000, most of whom are much more interested in going out for "Thirsty Thursday" or "Whiskey Wednesday" instead of studying for a test the following day, there isn't too much campus madness I haven't seen...not trying to sound all knowing or anything

Swoop the eagle is the official, and Dooley the skeleton is the unofficial

man i guess the most original mascot was the upenn fighting quakers... i love the oxymoronic mascot
