Pretty much the title is self explaintory. Long story short I was even aware I needed to take the sat or act. Now I have a little over 2 weeks to take it. I bought a few books one math book is The Princeton Review, Power Math. Is what is in the book even on the SAT? What do I need to study? I am SO lost and confuses!
Do some questions on Khan Academy, and then take one of their practice tests. They will give you questions based on the test so you can practice your weak areas. For review books, anything that says New SAT should be solid, but these books won’t do a whole lot since the test is so close. I recommend practice, read explanations, learn from mistakes, and repeat.
Do you know what the topics are? Like linear algebra? What?
Linear equations or what? I look at the practice test and i don’t know much of any of it.
Be targeted in your studying.
Take a practice test timed, as a diagnostic evaluation. Then, for the answers you got wrong, read the explanations of the correct answer.
The stuff you got wrong highlights the areas you need to work on. Focus on those areas in the 2 weeks you’ve got left.
I’m in the same boat as you! We will be taking it on the same test date. I have a Khan Academy account, its completely free and gives you practice test questions that are extremely similar to the actual SAT. The best way to prepare is to take full tests and time your self accordingly! You can practice all the questions you want but if you’re not timing yourself to replicate the stress of test day it wont do you any good. Make sure you know all your basic maths of Algebra 1-2 and Geometry. Fractions and probability are important! (at least on the ACT they are) Its mostly just basic math and a little bit of Trig from what I’ve found. Also, i think there is a no calculator section.
Just do practice tests, review your vocabulary and math skills through a Khan Academy account, and make sure you’re confident in your abilities. (:
Oh yes and one more thing, if you are taking the essay portion it is basically a rhetorical analysis.
Good advice here from @ZealousScholar. Khan Academy can provide you with a quick crash course that covers a lot of material.
I feel like khan academy give you 2 examples but then test you on something completely different than the 2 examples. Is this true or am I doing something wrong?
Take the practice tests: https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/sat/practice/full-length-practice-tests Review your incorrectly answered questions. Put them aside for a while while you practice other sections/new tests. Then, try the same questions again, from scratch, until you can get them right without peeking at the explanations. If the official answer explanations don’t make sense (they often don’t), then contact a private SAT tutor or find additional online resources to help you. Google is a powerful tool, so use it!
@nickerjackker Khan is OK too, and has tons of potential, but at the moment I’d say that it’s still in beta mode. Nothing is better than the actual paper tests.
Why do you have to take it in two weeks? There are lots of test dates…can you take a later date and give yourself some time to prepare and relax?
I need to take it in 2 weeks because the next time I can take it is when I need to have applied to colleges.
Hi, I totally know how you feel. My best tip would be to just do as many practice tests as you can, whole practice tests, (unless there’s a particular section you’re really good at that you could safely leave out sometimes) then go over ONLY the questions you got wrong. Target your review and what you got wrong, again and again until you get why you got it wrong. I know it’s so cheesy but it really does help if you do it right. Understand how you think and how the test thinks, and adapt your way of thinking.
