Not ready for the math portion of the SAT

So I’m going to be a junior next year and this summer, it is very critical for me to study for the SAT. The only problem is that I took Geometry as a sophomore and I’m taking Algebra II next year. This means that this whole summer I cannot do any practices for the math and I’m afraid I won’t do well on the SAT. Does anyone have any tips on what I should do this summer to prepare for the SAT and also when to take the SAT next year to be ready for the math?

Do you have PSAT scores that you could link to Khanacademy.org and practice and learn?

Definitely start using Khan Academy for prep. You don’t have to limit yourself to using just the SAT prep, though. I’d recommend going to the Algebra 2 lessons and watching the videos. That way, you can get a head start on Algebra 2 while you’re preparing for the SAT.

You absolutely CAN start practicing the math…sure, there will be problems you don’t know. So watch the videos, read the explanations and, most of all, make sure you get the ones you DO know right.

I do have my PSAT score linked to Khan Academy but I’m not sure how to practice algebra 2 problems like the ones I missed. How do I do that on khan academy?

You go to the KA site, and list the name of the topic.

To be honest, I’m not a huge fan of KA. Sal Kahn is a great teacher, but he doesn’t appear to be a math teacher. As a result, his explanations don’t always hit the mark the way I would like them to.

You could try listing the topic name on you tube and finding teacher videos on each topic-- I think the explanations will be a whole lot more clear.

I agree with @bjkmom . I personally watch mathbff and PatrickJMT (both have their own accessible websites). You could also pick up a used textbook (under $10) and start going through the material on your own.

Don’t worry about it. I was in the same boats you but I took the ACT and got a 31 on Math. Can’t imagine it is too different for the SAT. Best of luck.

There are some SAT math walkthroughs on youtube that explain every problem, and also different concepts that you will need.

My son took the PSAT in fall of sophomore year, after he finished geometry and had just started Algebra 2. A year later when he took the SAT, he already did better in math just by having had Algebra 2 and starting precalc.

You can study and prep math this summer and fall, then take the SAT in the winter and spring, or winter and summer.
