I am so screwed.

Correction to #12: Report asset value as of the date FAFSA is submitted.

My father and I are so confused.

He is currently filling out the noncustodial CSS, and we are so confused.
He lives in Colorado and he completed an individual income tax declaration for electronic filing.
He did not complete a 104A. It is signed and dated it for 3 days ago??? 11/11/15???
He says he has nothing else!!

What. is. this???
Does he fill it all out based on the information from the individual tax declaration for electronic filing???

I need serious help. :((

There is almost no information on this form. He sent me the pics, and I don’t know how to help him. This is due tomorrow. @-)

Ever heard the expression “Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part?” People here are willing and able to be helpful but we can’t help you much if you only seek help when you are up against a deadline. You really need to make a spreadsheet or calendar to plan ahead for the rest of your application season.

What college is this? Are you sure the CSS Profile is due Sunday? I would say to call the financial aid office and tell them your situation is confusing and ask for an extension. Also I think it woul be worth talking to the financial aid office about a waiver.* Perhaps you will just have to apply RD.

Why did you decide the father is filling out the NCP? Who then is going to do the main custodial portion, your mother? I think @twoinanddone was making a case for your father doing the Custodial portion for this and FAFSA. I do think the school should know your situation. Are you sure your grandmother never got legal custody or guardianship? She may have been eligible for foster care payments from the state.

I don’t even know what you are asking in your last post. He filled some tax for 3 days ago and you don’t know what to do with it? What do you mean he did not complete 104A, I suppose you mean 1040A? That doesn’t matter. What form did he file? Use the tax form he did file to fill in the CSS Profile according to instructions.

*fyi, my daughter got a waiver even though her father was ordered to pay support, based on a profound lack of contact.

@ilikebreakingbad

Are you applying early decision someplace? Or is it an early action application?

In either situation, you can call admissions and have your application for admission changed to regular decision. The deadlines for completing the Profile and FAFSA will then be after January 1…which will give you some time to sort all of this out.

@BrownParent

:-S

I sincerely thought that this CSS stuff was due in January or February. I did not realize that the date was so close for Restricted Early Action. I HAVE planned. I’'ve planned a lot! I have so much on my plate right now. I actually already have a calendar of due dates. I was planning on submitting all CSS profiles in the middle of December. This one little thing almost slipped through my fingers. I am so tired right now (sleep deprivation from so much work) that my body hurts.

I am sorry for asking so many questions. I am just gonna tell him to fill this thing out with the information that he has . If it is wrong, then hopefully I’ll be able to work it out later or whatever. I am pretty sure this is accurate enough. The chances of getting admitted to Stanford are low anyway…It won’t be the end of the world.

You can defer your application to regular decision…and save yourself this pressure to complete the form now. It sounds like your chances of admission would not be significantly less in the RD round.

^^agree, it is not worth it to apply to Stanford early. They deny you on the spot. Very few are admitted early and fewer are deferred, most are just flat out rejected. I know many kids who were rejected to that college who had other very good admits in RD. Don’t stress out for that. If you are good enough you will get in RD. If you are not an athlete there isn’t any need to apply early.

There is no problem asking questions. The annoyance comes along with the demands for immediate answers and the drama, caplock, emoji etc. We love to answer questions and strategize with you. But it is not fun like this.

How do I change to regular decision???

errr, email or phone

Thank you so much for all of the help. I am going to contact them as soon as possible.

I assume you are planning some other more realistic options while you have time to get things in order? Because Stanford isn’t realistic for most people.

Speak to your guidance counselor or the director of guidance at your school. He/she should have the experience to properly guide you.

On Monday
1° Call Child Services in your area; explain the situation. Ask for help regarding guardianship, etc.
2° After you calledChild Services, call Stanford and send them an email. Explain your situation: you’ve lived with your grandmother your whole life but she doesn’t have official guardianship because your parents were teenagers. You’re now trying to contact them but because you’ve not really been in contact in the past 17 years so you weren’t able to complete the CSS by Nov 15. You didn’t realize that your grandmother’s income wouldn’t be used.
3° For all purpose and intent, your grandmother is your guardian. Make the legal request ASAP.

@blueskies2day Oh Yeah. I have already applied to 3 different realistic schools in my state and been accepted. Stanford is just my reach school.

I sincerely believe that it is too late to change the custody situation. We are just gonna go along with this.

We are finally figuring it out. We did not even need all of the information that I thought we needed. This thing is asking for the 2015 tax year, which has not even filed yet. We are estimating the amounts.

I am sooooo happy. I am gonna keep the restricted early action. It is probably my best bet. Thanks again to everyone for all of the help!!!

OMG. I just realized that my mom an I accidentally put down that she had already filed taxes for this upcoming season, but she obviously has not!!! :open_mouth:

Nevermind about that last part. It is all good.

You complete the 2016-2017 Profile using estimates for the 2015 tax year.
