I am taking a gap year after completing AS level (1 year of british curriculum) and applying to US

Hey guys, I have moved directly from my country to Dubai where i went to a British school. I have started Alevels however first year didn’t end up well I failed all my 4 subjects (AS) because of english so I had to repeat it but I took new subjects and just three ASs. I am doing exams right now which means I am getting results in august. I want to take a gap year as i didn’t apply to colleges this year. I did SATs (in september) and I got 1990 which means I have a chance to improve it this year as i only took the test once. My question is: What if I will take AP classes, SAT and subject test this year and try to apply to top colleges in US and I will still have just one year of Alevels? Is it even possible or i MUST have 2 years of Alevels? Should I take AP classes and will they boost my changes of getting in? Or i should just do SAts and subjects test and lots of community services?

Please take your time to read it and give some advices

You don’t need both years of A levels, but for the rest it depends what you mean by “top”. If you mean HYPS I would be surprised if any combination of APs and SATs and ‘community service’ would do it; if you mean top 25 schools, perhaps. But (opinion time), you will have re-sat your exams and then taken a gap year, and I think that most of the top schools will expect that you have done something of consequence, that actually means something to you.
