I am the Apple Campus Rep at Penn. Ask me any questions about getting a Mac here

MacBook will handle any display but the 30" one. MacBook Pro can handle any display you throw at it.

Im thinking about buying a macbook from penn but im just not sure whether i should buy it now for the back to school sale or not... does anybody know how much do we generally save from this sale compared to the price at normal time of the year (after the sale - Sept)??

You lose out on the free iPod. That's a $150 value right there.

How much more is the discount during the back to school sale, and is it worth missing out on the "free" iPod?

What about tablet PCs like the one from HP? Are they cool enough to get over a Mac?

The special that were all the rage this spring are over. That was a once in a blue moon thing the Computer Connection had. It was not an Apple corporate sale and will not happen again anytime soon.

So basically the price is going to be the same during and after the back to school sale. It's a choice of getting a Mac with a free iPod, or getting a Mac with no iPod for the same price. I'd recommend the former ;)

So the most you can gain by delaying buying your computer now is getting a computer that comes with 10.5 Leopard installed instead of having to buy it. But Leopard will be a $70 upgrade. And $70 is less than $150 (even if you don't want the iPod, the market rate for selling it is still probably double that of the money you'd save with not having to buy Leopard.

I've played with Tablet PCs. I loved the concept of them, as I love gadgets :)

I think they're fun to play with for a bit, but then you realize that you're not going to be scribbling notes down on this thing...if you take notes, you're gonna be typing. Tablet PCs really only make sense for a select few professions, like doctors.

Are they cool? Yeah, at least at first. But then the novelty wears off and you are stuck with Windows ;)

Is it worth it to get a black Mac only for the color?

My family has Dell PCs. I know you can install XP or Vista onto a Mac, but once you do that, if you have files from a Dell PC saved onto a disc or drive thingy, can those files be transferred onto the Mac or no?

By this, I mean... If I download the Mac-affiliated Microsoft office suite thingy (Excel, Word etc), is that compatible with those programs on a Dell PC? For example, if my mom wanted to send me a Word document from her Dell to my Mac, would that be possible - could I open the doc? - or is it incompatible because of the different operating services?

withonevoice:

They are compatible. The Mac version of word can exchange Word, Excel, PowerPoint documents seamlessly.

Your mom can send them to you, you can send them to your mom, and the computers won't know the difference :)

Johnny, do you like black people?

Yes. MS Office for Mac is a regular Mac program. No Windows required.

the ipod deal says until supplies last. how long do the supplies usually last? Will there still be some around the end of july?

I just ordered my Macbook Pro through campusexpress. Any idea when I will be getting it JohnnyK? I'm really eager to get my hands on it. I live in California by the way.

Supply is tight now so I can't give a specific time. Shouldn't be too long though ;)

They all come from China or Taiwan anyway so you're closer to the source

i bought my macbook a few days before the ipod promo started. If i call computer connection, could I still cash in on the rebate or not? btw, I have already received my computer.

As long as you bought the Mac on or after June 5, then you are eligible.
