I am torn about whether self-studying just ONE more AP exam is worth it. :(((

Okay so basically I took:

Calculus BC (5)
Bio (5)
World History (5)

as a sophomore. This year as a junior I'm taking

Chinese
US History
Statistics
Computer Science
(i know, i know, but i took the harder APs my school offers during sophomore year, so it's not like I have a choice)

Hopefully I get 4+s on those as well. Now my question is, should I self study just one more AP to get National AP Scholar? It's a somewhat worthy accomplishment I can include on my app since not a lot of people get it after junior year. I'm thinking maybe I could try out AP Psych (or can anyone suggest a different one?)

Will college adcoms (think HYPSM) care about that designation, or will they understand that 7 APs is just one less than 8 APs?

For once (on CC), yes! Go for it.

I got a 4 on AP Psych after studying for a little over a week- two weeks.
I’m no genius. You should be able to do it no problem.

P.S.

Don’t kill yourself by overworking yourself. You’re still a kid. Enjoy your life.

Self-study Environmental or Psychology. From what I’ve heard, those are pretty easy.

Definitely lol, at least you have a meritocratic reason for doing it. I’d go with Psyche (not Environmental). Not only is it interesting to learn, but Environmental has a lot of memorizing and may not be all too fun.

Or you could do Eng Lang. No physics or chem at your school?

There’s no physics, but there’s a chem. I’m not too comfortable about taking it though, since I actually never took Chem H and I didn’t have the pre-req for Bio AP (I challenged in). Totally (asian)failed the biochem unit when I was taking Bio AP lol.

Okay but I just realized that I can’t take AP Psych senior year though, since it’s an actual class offered in our school for seniors… It might be worth it for the National AP Scholar, though.

You should take it! If you are just trying to get National AP Scholar, it’s worth taking an easier test that you have a greater chance of doing well on:)

Hmmm maybe. I still have my sister’s AP Psych prep book! lol

Why not? I deliberately worked for AP National when I was in high school?

no. one less to study for = greater chance of scoring well on those

I say yes, but I recommend AP Gov over AP Psych. AP Psych does require a bit of psych history and gov is mostly common sense IMO. It complements APUSH rather well IMO.

If your school has an AP Psych class, do ap psych, people might be able to help you

Well, I kind of don’t want to take AP Gov since it’s pretty much a REQUIRED course for seniors. AP Psych is offered for senior students but it’s not required, and I’ll probably take Chem AP for science senior year (I just looked at the other thread where they were like, OMG TOP COLLEGES WANT AT LEAST ONE YEAR OF BIO/PHYS/CHEM EACH and I haven’t taken chem).

Oh, and one other thing -

There’s another option. I could drop Physics H and take Chem AP instead (hopefully there’s still time for schedule changes).

Bump :/

I still think you should take AP Psychology:)

So drop my idea about taking AP Chem and swapping it with the Physics H right now?

Yes, unless you really want to take it. Ultimately, I would just continue with what you are in now, or at least with what your the most interested in. If you only need one more AP test, you might as well make it an easy one:)

You should do it. But having that AP scholar award isn’t going to boost you up during application time because almost everyone has it X_X.

But still, do it just to learn or get college credit. Definitely worth it even if there wasn’t an award on the line.
