I am wasting my entire school day

Ok So Here is my current schedule

AP Physics 1
Honors English 2/AP Stats(A/B day)
AP Calculus AB
Honors French 3

I thought this would be a really rigorous schedule, and I was ready to put in the work. Now here is my problem. Except for my Honors English 2 and AP Stats class, I feel like I am wasting my entire school day. The teachers in all my other classes go extremely slow through the course. For example, In my AP Physics class, we spent the entire class trying to solve a problem that literally took me 10 minutes to solve. It was such a waste of time that I brought out a book to read while he explains to the rest of the class how to solve the problem. Then he goes and calls me out on how I am being rude. So I am forced to be bored to death the entire period. Next example is 3rd block which is ap calculus. We spend forever on certain topics that I understand in 10 minutes while the teacher explains it one day, spends the next day explaining the concept again because some people didn't understand him the first day. The 3rd day, we work through a ton of problems about the topic. The 4th day we review the topic and redo some of the problems from the day before. I know this may be helpful to people who take a while to understand a topic, but it just wastes my time. Finally comes French 3 where we are still reviewing stuff from french 2 and are on our 13th day of school!. Also we only spend maybe half the class working where we spend the rest of the class doing whatever we want while the teacher just says "study for your test" and does stuff on her computer.

Ugggh, I hate this! The bright side is that after this year, I will be going to a boarding school that is claimed to be very rigorous with tough classes.

I have the exact same problem in physics. We are going beyond slow and the class room is freezing to make it worse. In the month that we have been in there, we spent 2 weeks on unit conversions and 2 weeks on problem solving (using a movie about rockets). Both of these things should have been covered in a day. It’s stuff we learned in chemistry or just stuff that can’t be taught. And it’s freezing to make my boredom worse.

Welcome to every single period of my school day (besides engineering).

Except I don’t really care because it leaves me to have more freedom from homework and projects and be able to do whatever the ■■■■ I want. The only downside is having to sit there and do nothing for 40 minutes straight. Then again, it’s not as bad for me, because I can sometimes be content with just sitting there thinking and daydreaming. Which works against me occasionally because then I won’t be paying attention when he explains a concept, but that’s what the internet is for!

/ the only CCer ever who didn’t go to an extremely rigorous high school

Well you can’t do anything about it, can you? Maybe you should take harder classes next time.

These are literally the hardest classes I could possibly take, especially as a sophomore. The problem is that I don’t fit with the school, and there aren’t any schools that are “fits” for me except for junior and senior year. I try to study physics and calculus by myself at home, but that just increases the problem because I will be far ahead of my classes, and I will be bored during class.

I’ve got the same problem with my physics class. If you’ve got the mathematical background, I suggest learning about quantum mechanics and solving problems during class. On your paper, it will look like physics, and it’s unlikely that the instructor will actually notice that you’re not doing classical mechanics. (Memorize the problems, of course; that way you don’t have to pull out a book in the middle of class.)

Typically once teachers are assured that ALL students know the basics, they hit the ground running with harder stuff. It’s paramount that a teacher knows that all his/her students know the basics or else they’re bound to get left behind.

It’s only been two weeks and aside from AP stats, all your classes require a strong understanding of the basics. It sucks that your bored, but that’s life. If you’re really bored then maybe you should politely talk to your teachers(keyword:politely) and see if they can give you some material that you can work on during class/at home.

Personally, I think reading a book during class does seem kind of rude :disagree: But to be honest, there really isn’t much you can do  At least your classes are easy  Every night all I have time for is homework, and basically my whole week is wake up, go to school, come home, do homework, and sleep. Just look forward until next year when you’re going to that boarding school  Or even do homework from another class during that time (but make it look like you’re doing work from that class) and learn material you actually are interested in at home.

Also, try not to seem super smart during class. Don’t be that guy that asks questions about complex things that are sort of related to the subject, even though you know the answer anyway. (I’m not implying that you do this, I’m just saying) Everyone hates that guy :joy:

Those random things with colons were supposed to be emoji, but I don’t even know what happened…

You should’ve went to early college. They sent me a thing in the mail. <a href=“Bard Early College”>http://www.bard.edu/earlycollege/

I wish my AP Physics class was as easy as yours sounds. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride this year.
