I-banking Question

Would you enter an investment bank as an associate if you obtain your MBA but have work experience in another field? Or would you still have to put in your time as an analyst?

Forgive my ignorance, I haven't been able to find any info concerning this question. I'm guessing you'd enter as an analyst, however, I'm just not sure.

where did you go to b-school?

typically, MBAs enter as an Associate.

I haven't gone to b-school yet. The reason I asked this question is because my current place of employment is not with an I-bank, but after graduating b-school I hope to land a job in investment banking. Is this possible without experience as an analyst prior to b-school?

Anybody know???

Where are you working now and where are you planning on going to b-school?

As I said before, MBA graduates typically enter i-banks as an Associate, regardless of whether you have prior experience as an Analyst - of course, you will have to prove you have the analytical skills to make it as an Associate, which will be determined through the rather rigorous interview process.

Ok, I was under the impression that you must be employed as an Analyst for 2-3years before obtaining an Associate position even if you enter an I-Bank with an MBA, but without experience as an Analyst. Right now I'm geared towards U of M, Schulich, or Rotman. The reasons for my selections are as follows, I live in Canada and think it would be easier to break into investment banking with a buldge bracket bank with a sector stationed in Canada (Bay Street), once I prove myself, then transfer to Wall Street if possible. Also, top 5 schools i feel are a bit out of my league not because of academics, but my full time work experience. Any suggetions?
