Hi,
This post is actually not for me but on behalf of a friend of mine who goes to USC. He is currently in his junior year majoring in Political Science and was interested in going into I-banking and continue to go onto an MBA.
My first question is will he be recruited or will he have to apply for an i-banking job since he is not coming out of one of the top 10 schools in the country? I think his GPA is around 3.4-3.5 and has a few extraccurics but I hear i-banking is competitive to get into. If what I hear is true, how many people get in that apply for positions?
Subsequently, if he does not get into i-banking right out of undergrad but does get an MBA from a top 10 Business school, would his chances of being recruited for an i-banking position increase greatly even though he might not have any previous experience?
Thanks.

the problem that your friend has is if he wants to get admitted to a top 10 business school he needs 3-5 years work experience.

Your friend will not have an easy time getting the attention of i banks with a 3.5 from USC. He will also not have an easy time getting into a top B school unless he gets a mid 700 LSAT and a great job out of college. He should focus on getting the best possible job he can in finance with great recs to apply to top B schools. If he can do that and do well at a feeder B school, i banking won't be a problem.

If your friend followed jazz's plan he wouldn't get into ANY business school. He could get a 800 on the LSAT and still not get in. :)

lol, what uc benz is trying to say is the LSAT is for law school. Jazzpiano, surely you mean the GMAT.
