I think you’re going to have to make this decision largely based on finances.

I agree.

Some/many of these schools do not give merit and don’t give good aid.

I think you need to wait until the FA packages come. Some/many will be eliminated based purely on affordability.

***I want to go into English. ***

Since you want to major in English, you have to realize that your salary during your years after graduation will not likely be very high. Therefore, anything but very small loans is probably not advisable. Actually, no loans is probably best for an English major.

Yea I dont really believe this thread much either, NYU either has ED, which is binding, or RD, which anyone can only find out about on april 1st

Majoring in English doesn’t mean that his salary won’t be high. He could major in English and become an investment banker, or a grant-writer, or or decide to go to medical school. Majors don’t directly lead into any particular jobs or salaries.

OP, you didn’t specify what school(s) you actually like the most. Which ones do you really like? Don’t pick all based on prestige and finances; where do you see yourself for the next 4 years AND what school do you see yourself putting on your resume for the rest of your life?

I applied to NYU ED and was accepted, when they didnt give me enough money they told me that all I would have to do was pay a fee and that would get me out of going there if I decided not to attend. I wrote them a letter that boosted me up to 12k a year, but it makes almost no difference so I still don’t know what to do. But thanks for trusting.

And I received my Denison acceptance long before the upcoming april 1st deadline. I can afford schools that will result in 30k of debt or whatever, I just dont know about the large 120k that I am looking at for NYU. NYU is the only school that scares me debt wise so far, other schools will almost assuredly be ok.

Penn State, Mich State and NWU will all cost something similar to NYU. I would look in-state or at one of the LACs (if you get good aid). To be honest, English is a subject that most schools do a good job with.

I’m trying to decide between Minnesota, Michigan state, Penn state, Pittsburgh, and Depaul. Money for these schools doesn’t matter so much anymore. However I still have a hard time deciding.

Money does matter but, these schools are nowhere near as bad as NYU. I do NOT want to base my decision solely on which school will give me 1000 dollars more in financial aid than a different school. I have figured that I can mostly afford the Penn st, pitt, depaul, michigan st, and minnesota. I was just wondering what schools are best academically and socially, how good their athletics are and how accepting they are of students. This is what I need help with.

If you can’t decide between that many schools then you shouldn’t have applied to that many schools, and I am assuming that there are more schools that you applied to that you didn’t get in to. All you are doing, aside from over-doing your safety net, is ruining other peoples chances of getting in. I am sorry if I seem harsh, but this should be a lesson for future generations. High school students should be able to find a balance where they have safety schools, but their not just applying to 15-20 schools.

I realize you only applied to 12, but in my eyes that still pushing it. It’s one thing if they are reach schools, but if you have gotten into almost all of them, then they are obviously not.

I was denied from 3 and have told all but those five that I will not be attending. They are all massive schools that accept thousands, besides they put the deadline on acceptance of admission there for a reason. Not everyone is set on where they want to head with their lives.
