I can't find any human resources internships in my area?

I want to work in human resources after I graduate; however, I am having the hardest time finding internships in human resources. I have found one but it is unpaid and about an hour commute. With gas prices being so high there is no way I can afford to commute half an hour to an unpaid position. What should I do? I have internship/research experience (8 months) in my industrial and organization psychology lab on campus but not much else. I have to work to pay for school and I'm taking online classes for my last semester so I can work/do an internship but I'm at a loss. I need more experience. What should I do?

Try craigslist. Just don’t send personal information directly to people on craigslist. If the listing has a link to a company website then apply through that. Otherwise, just send them an email and see if you can get more info, but don’t send them anything until you’re completely sure.

I have checked again and again. Most of the jobs posted on my city’s craigslist are fraudulent companies trying to steal applicants info. I almost applied to an “internship to permanent job position” that was written by a known con artist who has several felonies and has been previously arrested for fraud because he creates fake jobs and then sells applicant’s info. The website looked legitimate and it was an application directly on the site so that’s not a great method of determining whether jobs are legitimate or not. I don’t entirely trust craigslist. Its too sketchy. I have checked career builder, monster, simply hired and my campus career center. There’s nothing.

Well, it is kinda getting late to start looking for internships. I started applying around December for this summer, but even by December, some places were already done accepting applications for this summer.

I am so sorry for you biologynerd. I did not know your back story and how you work for everything. It is just unfortunate you did not have family or siblings who could give you good guidance and advice.
