I can't send my art supplement letter of recommendation without seeing it myself! What do I do?

Hi all - the early action deadline for the optional arts supplement is this Thursday, November 6.

I'm having a teacher write me an optional letter of rec but I don't know how to send it in. Princeton's online form for the arts supplements has an option for you to upload the letter of rec.. from your own computer ("Choose File").

Doesn't that mean I will be able to see the rec? And if so, doesn't that invalidate the rec and make it worthless to admissions officers? What should I do? I've tried contacting the admissions officers but they haven't gotten back to me yet.

There's also the option for snail mail - should I do that instead? I remember hearing some mention of how you should sign over the seal on an envelope if you send in a rec by snail mail.

I had my teacher email me the letter, then I downloaded the document and then uploaded it to the UA website without looking at it. This is not as serious as a teacher or counselor rec, it’s supplementary.

I’m considering just snail mailing the whole thing… are you sure it’s fine to upload it yourself? Even if it isn’t as serious, it seems to me like the same protocol apply.

When I called the admissions office, the person who initially answered didn’t know. I was transferred to someone else and left a message but haven’t heard back.

I’m pretty sure that Princeton wants you to upload it yourself, or else they wouldn’t have provided the option for you to upload it from your account. Don’t worry too much about it!

Thanks for the advice. I ended up just sending it by snail mail in a sealed envelope (inside the larger envelope with the rest of my materials)
